Just say you need it for your records or just checking something out, dont think the staff in the bank would give you the 3rd degree about it.

Ask Abbey?

It is people not able to control their own money. The system issues or poor service are not the cause, it is down to the individual.

Another typical response from another chip on the shoulder merchant. I will judge as i please thank you very much.

How predictable....

If you bothered to read your terms and conditions leaflet you would discover why the charges are different amounts. Perhaps you will manage your new account better in future although somehow i very much doubt it.

There was a problem on the link network today for a while, this also happened on Saturday so i think the non withdrawal was down to that rather than any [problematic] blocking your account.

They kept the Abbey National name as that is the name registered with companies house but are known as Abbey for trading purposes. There is a building firm with just the name Abbey.

Just pointing out the facts from the fiction!

Santander has not lost 2 billion, their direct exposure to the Madoff fraud is only 17 million. Santander clients exposure is 2.3 billion through Santanders Optimal fund management unit. Optimal will take all legal actions which may be needed to defend the interest of those customers. Optimal is the Santander Groups assest manager that specialises in the management of alternative investment funds.
No UK savers are at risk as none of those funds have been sold through Abbey, A&L or B&B so there is no exposure to any savers.
It appears that Santander and certain global customers of Santander (both institutions and high net worth clients), have been subject to fraud by Madoff Securities specifically through the Groups Optimal Strategic US Equity Fund.

Good to know that it will be polite.

Abbey PPI has carer cover so if the card is with them then you could claim on it.
-
And also what is the likely outcome if the court finds thus - yes you owe them four grand but you cannot afford to pay it off in your lifetime?
Sewing bags or breaking rocks.

Hindsight, but this shows that getting a HPi check done before buying a car on private sale is important. Best of luck anyway.

It is common knowledge which banks did use the govt bail out. Abbey website and press statement at the time makes that clear also. The £100 was a special offer deal anyway as like most companies they have a promotion and marketing budget.
The tax payer angle about us owning/running their affairs is a daft one. The army is funded by tax payers money but you could not turn up at an army base and demand to use a tank!
-
The £100 switcher bank account is not funded by tax payers money as Abbey have not used any of the govt bail out money so this point and rant made above is unfounded!

To be fair, interest on mortgages are low at the moment especially compared to the 80's when rates were 17%. Depoit accounts are now paying very low rates of interest but investments are still giving a high return and certainly will out perform a savings account.

Any member of staff in an Abbey branch can go on servicing portal and see when the direct debit was cancelled. If as you say you cancelled it before DD was due to go out then they could easily refund the charges, fill in a charges review form and note the reason for refund was 'abbey error' and that is as easy as can be.
-
Why would someone move address and then not tell the bank they had moved??
-
-
Payments by a debit card dont go straight out of your account and any refunds to a card also dont go on straight away.

I can get you a Streamline tariff guide to show how much a shop has to pay to provide debit/credit card chip and pin service. Cant see how it can be illegal to charge for a service like this, bit like some cash machines charge to take money out.
-
For a shop owner Streamline have various tariffs for the chip and pin machines, there is a monthly rental and also transaction charges. Credit cards cost the shop a different rate to debit cards. This is why as stated above they will recoup this on lower transactions to help with the cost they incur.

You really recieve no training at all? As for product knowledge YOU can read the leaflets and the info on bookstore and fact sheets on line. If you dont know info on credit cards etc that is your fault. The morning huddle is a time when info is given to all staff.
