  1. I know this is an ancient thread but what did this turn out to be?
  2. Hi, Thanks for the replies. I would just like to say that I understand that contacting your creditors is not the norm, but I just want to get this all sorted out. Every couple of years a debt collector crawls out of the woodwork and causes trouble which is unfair for my wife as she had nothing to do with my debts originally. The only solution that I can see is to pay them off as quickly as possible so in 6 year time I will be free forever. Thanks
  3. Hi, This may sound a bit strange, but I am trying to trace all of my old creditors so that I can pay them off. My property was repossessed about 14 to 16 years ago and when I left there, I left lots of debts behind me, I would guess around £6k. Every so often I keep getting the odd letter from debt collection agencies / tracing agencies. Quite franky I am sick of these letters and worry about the debts being registered against me on the CRAs. I have tried the Statute barred letter but it only comes back years later from another agency. I also notice that over the last week I have a Search registered on Equifax by Mackenzie Hall showing up as an 'Outstanding Debt Search'. According to Equifax if it is showing in the 'Credit Section' of the searches made and this will be displayed to future lenders if they check my file . Apparently it stays on file for 6 years unlike a normal search. which is only 1! I have a new life and good credit history and would like to keep it that way if at all possible so want to minimise the likelyhood of being track down and blacklisted ever again!! I know that two creditors have a CCJ so they will never become Statute barred. Whether or not the debt is Stat barred I would like to pay them off, or at least make a F&F offer. Do you think creditors accept a F&F on a debt which is not Statute Barred (i dont think that the creditor has evidence that there was a CCJ but I know that there was). I really have forgotten who I owe money to, and whether I have already paid them off, so would like to send the letter below to each of the companies that I think I owe money too. Please can someone take a look and see if they think that this is acceptable or ok? Thanks for your help. Dear Sir / Madam, I am writing to you to request some information regarding a very old account I may have had with you around 1992 at the address below: My name & address Date of Birth : 1/1/01 Unfortunately, the property was repossessed and at that time I completely lost track of who I and my ex-partner owed money too. I believe that I did have an account with you at that time, but no longer have the account number or details of this. Occasionally a creditor chases me for repayment of a very old account – even though it was over 14 to 16 years ago. I have since married and have a completely different life. I was diagnosed with cancer, which luckily is in remission but this has only made me even more eager to resolve all of my past outstanding issues in order to move forward without fear of my past catching up with me at any time. Therefore, please can you thoroughly check your records and confirm if there are any outstanding amounts that I may owe to you. If the amount is still outstanding, please can you provide the current balance and account number. I believe in some cases debts are sold on or transferred to other agencies and if this may be the case in this instance, please could you confirm the name and address of the agency that I would need to contact. It may be the case that the account that I had with you was in fact repaid and closed or written off a long time ago, which I know was the situation in certain circumstances. If this is the case please can you confirm that there is no balance outstanding and I can put this issue to rest. I am sorry that I cannot provide any further information but look forward to your reply shortly. I can be contacted by email to email address or in writing to the address at the top of this letter. Yours sincerely Oakserver
