Hi, I hope someone can help me. My son and his wife have separated. They have a joint mortgage and we and my mother gave them a lot of money towards their deposit on their house. My daughter in law wants to keep the house on, my son has moved out. She says that he cannot get any of this deposit back, that it is all hers to keep, is that right? There is little equity in the house as they only bought it two years ago and she says that all he is due is 50% of this equity. Without any of this deposit back he cannot afford to rent his own flat so is sleeping on friends' sofas. Surely he is due something back, we thought he would get half of it back? Help please, I would be very grateful.
