  1. Thanks for your message kennythecelt, I have been made a "final offer" (its the first offert they have made me), but I dont think its enough - it covers the costs of what we lost but it isnt enough for the stress, frustration and inconvenience caused to us and they said if we're not happy we can complain to the ombudsman and gave us the address. i just might do that. They softened my complaints and then made the offer. im not going to take it. any suggestions as to what i should do would be appreciated. thanks
  2. Thanks Kennythecelt. I have been made an offer but I dont think its enough for what Ive been through and the gross incompetence - 13 months before it was set up, tut tut. They mentioned that this is my final offer (although it is the only offer they have made) and told me if Im still not happy to go to the ombudsman. It covers most of what Ive been out but not any of the stress, frustration etc. I dont want to accept this figure - I want more for what we've been through. Any thoughts. Thanks
  3. Hi kennythecelt, allybally1 here. Well done to you, keep going and get what you r owed. Could you pm me asap as i have a question to ask you re my post about the Clydesdale Bank nightmare? Thanks and cheers to more success:grin:
  4. Hi everyone, im relatively new to this site but have found it very interesting and its brilliant how many are getting their bank charges back - i'm really pleased to have found this site. Hope someone can help me with this problem I've been having with the Clydesdale Bank. The basic outline is: I applied for a current account + offset mortgage 13 months ago and had an interview with mortgage manager. I left him our personal documents (passports, bank account statements, bills, driving license) which he promised to send by end of week. 6 weeks later still no documents and heard nothing re mortgage. A further 6 weeks later he admitted he had lost our documents and had done nothing re: our mortgage. I finally got passed to someone else who apologised and said she would take care of it. One blunder followed another and the end result was that it was finalised in Feb 07 but the current account offset part still was not set up, so we were not getting our mortgage offset by savings we had in bank. They set up a direct debit with our old bank and were taking their payments from our old account. We had no bank cards and no account (they had been opened - but then closed) but nobody knew who was responsible. After many more setbacks we finally got the product we applied for two weeks ago. All of this cost us a lot in interest rates, phone calls, working time, stress, frustration and we did not get our summer holiday last year because we had no passports! A senior member of the complaints department told me I would get compensatet for the trouble and expense we had been out, but I heard nothing more. I phoned the other day and he asked me how much I was looking for. I did not give him a figure - he promised that they would be in touch with a final offer next week (there has not been any other offer - so dont know why he was going on about final offer. I think I should have given him a figure of what I was expecting as I think they are going to offer a mediocre amount. What is my rights here? Can anyone tell me what I should/can claim for? It really has been a nightmare. What should take 6 - 8 weeks took 13 months. Grateful for any advice.
  5. Hi kennythecelt, thanks for your reply. I will try and explain this situation although I may miss out a lot of stuff as I dont have the file to hand. About thirteen months ago I applied for a Current Account Offset mortgage. After 6 weeks I still had not heard back from the mortgage manager, so I phoned and was given some wild story. 3 months later I still had not heard anything plus the chap lost all our personal documents. I complained and was given someone else to deal with. 3 months later - still awaiting the completion of the mortgage. We were given excuse after excuse. By the beginning of year I was really losing my patience. We were promised it would be completed by the end of the month. To ensure this would happen I phoned their solicitors and paid the redemption amount from my old mortgage. No-one contacted me to tell me that although I had paid the redemption fee to the solicitors they had not completed the mortgage and I was then in arrears with my old bank. It took them a further 3 weeks to complete the mortgage. But they had not set up a current account and done the necessary work to transfer our direct debits and close our old account - so they were taking their payments for our new mortgage from our old bank account, which meant we were not getting the product we applied for (whatever you have in savings is offset against your mortgage and you save on interest). Instead our savings and direct debits were still with our old bank, so we were not saving anything in interest at all. It took them a further 5 months to set up our current account and direct debits and to finally close our old account. Many many things happened in between this too, and throughout this time we were passed to 6 different people to deal with all over the country. It has been unbelievable. Throughout this time I was phoning them twice/three times a week (some calls for 25/30 mins) over the 13 months. aaaggghhh!! It has been the most stressful time and we missed our holiday last year because they lost our passports. I think they are going to skimp on the compensation side and Im not accepting it. Sorry to have gone on and on but it has been a very difficult time. Let me know what you think.
  6. Hi, Im relatively new so hello to everyone. Im wondering if anyone can help me with a situation re the Clydesdale Bank. We applied for a Current Account Offset Mortgage with them back in June 06 - and believe it or not, it only became fully functional 10 days ago!! The amount of time, money, stress spent on this has been incredible - I just don't believe they could get it so wrong. So many things just didnt get done with them and the result was us losing a lot of money in interest rates and charges. I am asking for compensation and I was asked by a member of their complaints dept (very matter-of-factly) how much I wanted. I did not answer this - should I have? Should I give them a figure rather than wait on them offering? :?
  7. Hi, i dont know if this will be of help but might be worth a try. Contact your local MSP and explain that your mum is very upset and is being harrassed. Tell him that she has offered to pay something back each month (i was sure that as long as she is willing to pay something they had to take it - but im not exactly sure) and ask his advice. Make it clear to him that she is not in a position to pay the whole lot off. I empathise with you completely because i know so many who have been through this and the council really are callous when it comes to this. I dont know how they get away with behaving like loan sharks - they dont listen to people at all and use threats of arresting your bank account and taking your possessions - it should not be allowed. Hope you get the info you need Allybally1
  8. Hi i would just like to introduce myself and say hi to you all. I'm allybally1 and I have found this website so interesting. Absolutely disgusted at what these banks have been doing to use for years. I'm interested in the mortgage exit fees - we've just paid £474 for nothing, we did not leave early but were still charged this. Its a [edit]. We are having a nightmare trying to get a mortgage with the Clydesdale Bank. Believe it or not, we made our enquiry last July and have still not got everything sorted out. First they lost all of our accounts, passports and driving license, then we had to wait 4 months for them to re-imburse us the price of the new passports (which was slightly under), then they missed our redemption date and we went into arrears (which their solicitors paid). I am just so appalled at the time it is taking them to give us a mortgage. Im wondering if its because we have an endowment mortgage because they tried to give us the heavy sell on repayment but we only have 11 years left. Is there anything we can do about the amount of time this is taking and how unprofessional they have been from start to finish (loads have happened in between I won't bore you with) but the truth is they are totally incompetent. They sent us a leaflet to make a complaint and their manager told us we really should complain - its as if they dont give a hoot. Meanwhile we're still paying extortionate mortgage rates with Abbey. Can anybody through some light on what I can do about this - our last mortgage was through within 8 weeks but this is going on and on and ................. Sorry for all the grumbling but im really cheesed off with them and this situation. Has anyone else went through this with CB? Thanks
