Hi I received a letter from a company called Buchanan Clark & Wells (BCW) the other day, headed 'Final Notice' and threatening legal action if a debt of £119.20 purportedly owed to 'Robinson Way-O2 (Formerly BT Cellnet)' was not paid immediately. There was mention of 'despite previous correspondence… you have failed to notify us of any legitimate reason for non-payment… we assume that you do not wish to settle this matter amicably'. I phoned them to find out what this was about (as my mobile is with O2, via Carphone Warehouse, but I pay by Direct Debit) and was told that the amount relates to an outstanding debt from an address that I left around 8 years ago! Obviously I've no way of knowing whether this is a real debt. I don't remember owing anything (and, as I'm still with O2 it would seem unlikely that they'd have let a debt hand around for so long), but the person at BCW was unable to provide me with any documentation relating to the alleged debt, and just suggested that I contact Robinson Way who are, apparently, another Debt Collection Agency. Any advice?
