  1. Hi Margaraet. I'm only a layman so this is my understanding gleaned from various sites, but particularly Unfair UK Bank Charges | legal help from Govan Law Centre, Glasgow, UK . As regards where to send the papers, you can either serve them on your account holding branch (and let them do your legwork for you) or go for the head office in Edinburgh. Also, I'm sure you already realise this but I'll mention it anyway, just in case...since you live in Chester and the bank is domiciled in Edinburgh, you have the choice of pursuing them in either a Scottish or an English court. Don't know if this is of any help but good luck and good hunting.
  2. I've just started getting serious about claiming back my charges from the Royal Bank of Scotland and I found the most helpful advice at Unfair UK Bank Charges | legal help from Govan Law Centre, Glasgow, UK It will take a bit of time to read through all the advice but personally I think it's worth doing it. The more I studied it, the more I realised that the banks are in trouble, not us. The link above will take you through the best order of doing things and they also give you standard letters to use when you're claiming your charges back. And it's geared up for Scottish law. If you haven't checked it out already, please do soon. You may find you're in a stronger position than you think. Good luck.
  3. Persevere and don't despair. I've spent the last few hours reading up on the same problem with the same bank. The link that did most to clarify the procedure for me was Unfair UK Bank Charges | legal help from Govan Law Centre, Glasgow, UK . Follow their links and they'll show you exactly what letters to write. You might find letters a drag but for me it's better than losing my cool in a verbal argument. It seems to me to be important to realise that victory will require a bit of patience and determination to stick to the gameplan. Hope it works for you. Good luck!
  4. Greetings to one and all. I've just followed the link from the MoneySavingExpert.com site and I'm replying to the kind invitation to introduce myself. My aim is to reclaim a four-figure sum from the Royal Bank of Scotland, which has had me by the tender parts for years....until now! Thank you for running this site. I've already studied quite a bit of the advice and I'm up for the fight, but one detail troubles me about the advice on going all the way to court. I'm not sure how much of the advice is based on English law as opposed to Scots law. I'm sure there are likely to be differences in the procedures up here in Caledonia. Can anyone point me to a place where I can find the correct procedure to pursue in Scotland? Good luck to everyone else.
