  1. I once received a voucher thru the post from Phones 4 u for £360. As I had never used that company for anything I was puzzled. I rang to see what it was about. The advisor said he had no idea and suggested I hang on to them and say nothing. No-one ever asked me to return it.
  2. Ordered bathroom cabinets from Wickes - cost £800. Next day a repeat order arrived. Despite my saying I had already received mine the driver insisted on leaving them. Rang next day to say I now had 2 lots - they said they would collect them. They never did. That was 3 years ago. My daughter now has a matching bathroom!
  3. It was not a case of Barclays not turning up - judge set date at Dec 10th. Original hearing was Aug 15th. When Barclays received letter from Bury Court a week later I rang Robert Saunders who said that Barclays would not be defending the verbal offer and a full settlement was arranged. Robert thought it would be difficult for Barclays to disprove my claim that a verbal offer had been made. Seems ridiculous that one judge can take that stance and others give stays.
  4. They dont necessarily mean 'nowt' though. My judge said a verbal offer was as binding as a written one - though the onus would be on me to prove it. And in order to do that it was only fair to invite the other party to court to disprove what i said also. There must be some truth in the legality of that if Barclays were not willing to deny it in court. Or is that too simplistic a view?
  5. When I went to court the judge said if I had evidence of e mails confirming an offer of refund then the case was totaly compromised and that a stay was not appropriate. I did not receive offer in an e mail just verbally - but he said that was enough for him not to order a stay. Barclays paid up.
  6. Cheque from Barclays cleared today - so all done! Would not have had the confidence to take them on but for the help and encouragement from all of you regarding dealing with the Lit Team. Robert Saunders made me a verbal offer and eventually did the honest thing by not going to court to deny it. However, cant fault the guy - he was always helpful. Thanks again.
  7. Personally I would still go. They have played lots of dirty tricks to date. I would not risk it. I am sure the judge will think you are very sensible. They may well not show up anyway.
  8. Anyway guys - thanks for all the advice and support you all gave me. If anyone else feels they may be able to benefit from the circumstances of my case (verbal offer) do let me know. I will be only too happy to help. Had claims with HX and RBS and HSBC but Barclays were definitely the most difficult. Hope you all get your goodies returned soon. Will continue to follow your progress.
  9. Cheque arrived this morning. Am I correct in presuming its best not to notify court at all until funds cleared?
  10. ELECTRIC LEMON - clear some storage space! Wont let me pm you some information.
  11. Took all documents to court. Phoned Lit Team who said they have posted out a cheque this morning. Cant wait to see the postie tomorrow!
  12. OK thanks - will take all documents down to court tomorrow just in case!
