  1. hello, quick background bit as im new here, 6 years ago when i was 16, i opened a R21 account (like a poor student account) when i was in college. never really used it for 2 years, till i got a job for a few months, paid into it, quit, left 10p in the account and that was that. i started a new account with RBS before i went to university, and thats the account ive been using since. since then, 4 years have past, and i have moved house. all my relevant post that i need comes straight to my new address, ive been here a year. i went hom this weekend to see my family, and my mum past me my post which is usually rubbish, that doesnt come to my new address. in there was a final notice dated the end of august, asking me to pay off a debt of around £360, oweing on the account i opened 6 years ago and never really used. it turns out, the bank had upgraded the account, to one which requires a £6 a month fee. as i never recieved notification, i didnt give them any kind of permission to do this. this account was always there 'just in case' i needed it, but i never really checked it. anyway, £6 fee takes me £5.90 into the red, and then we have £30+£4 of fees and charges per month that 'im not aware' this is going on... hence the £360 debt on the account. im not really sure what to do. i dont want to just pay up, but the hassle of claiming the money back would stress me out for too long. i have had different advice, such as to make an appointment with a branch manager. the debt collections bit of RBS are meant to be getting a more extensive history of the account, and sending a copy to my new address. i just want this sorted out as fast as possible. im also worried (as the final notice warns they can close my 'accounts') that the account i use daily will be closed, and i'll be left with no money at all.
