  1. :-|Oh well, here's an update to the sorry saga........... I called again yesterday to be told that they are now dealing with post received from 5th October:eek: (how they can go from not dealing with post received at the begining of September (as I was told in last weeks phone call) to dealing with post received a month later............). Anyway, it turns out that they don't have anything on record of me making a claim and they've more than likely lost my p45 and p50 . So because of that I will have to send in another claim. To say that I'm an unhappy bunny would be an understatement!!!! During the course of the conversation I was told by the person I was speaking to this time that I shouldn't have been told that it takes around 4-6wks to deal with a tax rebate as this was an unrealistic figure. So I asked if I could have a "named" person that I could send my details to this time, so that I could check to see if it had been received and was told that this was not possible. I then asked if they could do an informal calculation on what I was possibly owed, to be told this was also not possible. Think I was dealing with a "computer says no" character yesterday!!!! Mind you they did offer to send me out a P50 form - to which I replied that I was quite capable of downloading one from their website and printing it off - by this time I was severely p*ss*d off...... So I now have to go through the whole process again - as I said in my original post, I might get this in time for Christmas.
  2. Now if I was in possession of my P45 I would give it to my new employers. Problem is it's in the backlog of mail along with the P50 waiting on the Inland Revenue to issue me with a new one:roll: I was told in the original phone call to them that along with the Rebate they would issue me with a correctly coded P45 that I could take to my new employers. Hopefully I'll avoid the dreaded BR tax code as I've filled in a P46. Thanks for the advice offered, will see what they say on the phone tomorrow:wink:

  4. Hope I’m posting this in the right forum, if not, please feel free to move it to a more appropriate one ;-) And sorry in advance, this is going to be a long one and a bit of a rant! I finished working for my previous employers in August and wasn’t due to start in my new post until the end of September. While I was employed from the April to the August I was taxed at BR, despite the fact that this was my only job and that I’d filled out a P46, my tax just never did seem to get sorted out. When I received my P45, I had a look on the HMRC website and downloaded a P50 so that I could claim my overpayments back. I wasn’t going to be working for over 6 weeks or claiming any benefits, so fulfilled the criteria set out for claiming it back. Before I sent off the forms I phoned the tax office in question down in Merseyside (I'm up in Scotland) to ensure that I was sending it to the correct office. During the call I asked how long it would take for the tax rebate to get sorted out and was told around 4-6 weeks. Well it got to 5 weeks, so I called them to be told that there is a backlog in opening the mail there and it’s more than likely not been even opened yet the projected timescale I was given this time was 6 – 8 weeks……. It’s now 8 weeks, so I phoned again. This time I was told that the backlog is due to the fact that they’re closing/relocating the office that I’d sent it to and the mail received there is being redistributed to two other tax offices to be dealt with. I've now been told that I might be lucky and see it this side of Christmas :-x Is this worth raising a complaint with them? I just feel that I’ve waited for the money I’m due back long enough now. In previous dealings with them they were never as slow as this and I usually got back any overpayments within a month. What really annoys me is the fact that I’ve saved the various Govt Depts a fortune by not claiming any benefits and making do with what I’d got for the time being. And they’d be quick enough to ask us for any overpayment back!
  5. Did you guys have any luck with either of your requests? I'm in the same position myself - got told less than a week before my start date that the offer was withdrawn due to an "unsatisfactory" reference. By this time I'd already handed (and worked) my notice at my previous company.
  6. I live in Scotland and presently have the Sheriffs Officer knocking on my door regarding my council tax arrears. So far he's been round three times, nothing happened the first time, the second he asked he could come in so we could come to an arrangement. I said it wasn't convienient to discuss it right now, so made arrangements with him to come back another day. Then I started reading into it and realised my mistake in agreeing to this -doh! So when he did come round, the doors were locked and I didn't answer them - he actually sat outside the house in his small van for over half an hour!!! I don't dispute the fact that I owe council tax and am more than willing to pay it at an amount I can afford, but on the letter that I have from Scott & Co it details not only 2005 and 2006, but allso a "pre 2005" figure which is not an inconsiderable amount to be owing. My problem is this: I need to know what this "pre 2005" figure amounts to. Up until November 2004 I was a Nursing Student so not liable for council tax. I think that possibly the Council have got their figures wrong. How would I go about finding this out? More importantly I need to stop the Sheriffs Officer coming round in the meantime - how would I go about doing this as well? Oh and as my car is also worth over the £1000 (and I've got a bank loan out for it!) should I transfer details of ownership with the DVLA to my 19yr old daughter? Thanks in advance for any help! AP
  7. Firstly, where do you live as the law differs slightly for England/Wales and Scotland. Here in Scotland as long as the Landlord is accepting rent payments from you it means that the tenancy agreement runs for six months following the date that the last rent payment was accepted. (I learned this from the CAB and Shelter when I was having problems with my Landlord trying to evict me without giving proper notice etc). If I where you, get in touch with your local CAB to get things sorted out amicably between you and your Landlord and avoid the potential for being chucked out on the streets. HTH
