Hello I currently have 2 credit cards with Amex with one card with a balance of £5500 and the other a balance of £8500. It has now been passed over to a debt collection agency to recover the debt as I can no longer pay the amounts as my mortgage has gone up by 50% and so have all of my other bills. however, I was sent an email from Amex after I was given the two credit cards to say they did not perform the correct checks when they gave me the cards and said they would retrospectively check. I would like to know if because they didn’t do the necessary checks if there is anything I can do to lower the balance as I might not have been able to borrow the amount I did if they had checked properly. thank you. - I have the email.
