  1. I am gutted for you, however get onto HPI and inform them. Read the T & Cs for the HPI check very carefully to make sure whether you can claim or not. At the very least ask for a full refund plus compensation as it was a result of their info you bought the car. Worth a shot in my opinion.

Actually if you pursued it into the courts they may pay some compensation as a court case in the papers could destroy all their credibility.

No cover for a clone which is pointless in having a full check .* Any ideas how to get hold of the original owners name of the insurance company , police won't give it out so I'm stuffed otherwise , tried the mid database with the real reg number and it comes up with nothing

  2. Today is a bad news day for me i'm afraid .........Car was stolen and cloned, police impounded the car today and are chasing up with the seller, police officer said it does not look good for getting my money back and the only thing i could possibly do is try and get hold of the insurance company that has paid out the owner of the stolen car and maybe do a deal with them for the title of the car that would have to be put back to all original with the vin numbers and so on

  3. Have you been to the local police and told them whats going on? They have a lot more facility to check things out. And if you tell them you have genuine concerns that the vehicle may be stolen, especially with the switched ignition system, they are duty bound to investigate. If the local station wont do anything, head to your main station instead.

With the local station, dont speak to the "officers" on the front desk. They are normally civilians. Speak to a sergeant or above.

You need to get things officially checked out so you can set your mind at ease. Atm, all we are doing is guessing. A thorough investigation should prove what is going on.

I've been to the police station today and even stopped an officer in the street , they will not use there powers to check a vehicle unless they do so themselfs for a traffic reason and not for public checks

  4. Hi everyone , i have a new problem

I dropped the car at BMW today and within 30 mins they called me back saying that the cars ignition does not belong to the car, they checked the key and it belongs to a 535 not my 530 and not the dame year , the guy on the phone said it could be innocent and just be that the car has had a second hand replacement ignition but even tho that brings up questions,

The only positive i can think of is that the guy i bought it from bought it as stolen recovered and a third party not bmw replaced the ignition and then he sold it on to muggins me , I got no problem with the car if thats the case as long as its not dodgy

Do you think this is plausible ?

  5. The only way you can be covered is to buy from a reputable established dealer and pay at least £100 or over on a credit card for a little added security.

The fact is, and this might hurt a little, if this car turns out to be stolen and nobody knows that is the case yet, but if it does and the police recover it you are going to be without a car and your money. I know a guy who brought a Ford mondeo many years ago and it all looked legit but a few months later the police knocked on his door, told him it was stolen and took it away. He lost both the car and the money and it was down to him to chase for his money back which he never got back.

The police will recover the car and that is as much involvement as they will want with your end of the deal. They might follow up the burglary for the victim.

    Sorry.

Then again, it might be nothing and totally legit.

Have you tried contacting the registered keeper on the documents and asking?

How would i go about contacting the last registered keeper, i just have his address which is over 200 miles away , no phone number

  6. just a quick one,

i done the full HPI check on a car a few days ago ,

All came back ok so i purchased the car for 8k but

i tried to call the seller a few times since to see if he had a spare key as when i picked the car up he said the company he buys from sometimes finds a spare

and then he would pass on but the phone is permenetly off or turned off,

He has also closed his Ebay account from which i first seen the classified add on ,

he also had zero feedback and had only opened his account the day before the car was listed ,

like i said i have had the full works hpi check and even went to a local garage for them to do which they did for £10

    and all came back good,

just a bit suspicious with him closing of the account on Ebay ,

Can anything come back and kick me in the ass after all the checks ive done

  7. Not sure if this is in the right palce but here goes x

I won a car on thursday night on ebay and paid the £300 deposit for it as described to hold the car, went to pick up the car , over 200 miles away and it was no where near as described, It was described as immaculate and not a single blemish, Turned up to find 5 dents on roof , few on the doors, front bumper not lined up , advertised with xenons and had normal bulb headlights, advertised with led door handle lights , none fitted , at this point we said it wasnt for us and at a cost of £70 fuel we headed back home, Now the big question i want to as you guys is that will i get my £300 deposit back, He said he would refund it no problem as soon as he got home and have now just text me saying he wont, so alarm bells are already ringing with him being dishonest as not describing the car truthfully ..

What do i do next guys as im reading conflicting advice saying i will get it back and some saying i wont as paypal dont do refunds on motor vehicles

    Cheers guys
