My wifes monthly bill just landed on her phone, and its more expensive than usual so she contacted 02 to find out why ! Turns out that she was charged £8.70 + VAT by 02 for making a £10 text donation to Comic Relief !!! The 02 agent explained to her that the Comic relief text number was a "Premium Rate" number and therefore it was charge at £8.70 !!! Surely Comic Relief organizers are astute enough to know that if this is a standard charge for all text message donations to them then people are going to think harder about making a £10.00 donation if its going to cost £20 + in the future !!!! Or is this a tactic by Comic relief ??? do they get some portion of that £8.70 ??? Or is it simply 02 trying to rip off consumers taking advantage of the generosity of the UK public to the less fortunate ??? Either way its not a particularily nice situation to make a donation of one figure to then get charged double for making that donation !!! Anyone else had this happen to them ????
