A while back I was contacted by my local Council Tax Office who informed me that I had a "financial association" with another person at my address. I soon realised that they were on about my nephew having his mail sent to my address because he was constantly travelling the country working at riding stables and was never anywhere permanent for very long. I contacted the Council Tax Office and informed them of this but they said they wanted an address for him. Unfortunately at the time I couldn't get hold of him and then soon forgot about it. Today I received a letter saying that my single occupancy discount was being removed and a new revised bill to the amount of over £1200 was being issued. I have categorically told them that he has never lived here and has never even stayed the night here in the period they set out which is 2007 to present yet they still have issued a "liabilities" bill. Can they do this? I have done nothing wrong and am only claiming what I am entitled to. All I have done is allowed by nephew to have his post sent here. Am feeling really distressed now - please help someone with some good advice. Thanks in advance.
