  1. I contacted the supplier who said the meter man had visited, knocked on the door and then left (without ringing the doorbell) despite the fact that I had arranged the specific appointment time and date for the meters to be read, and was waiting for him to arrive. Why didn't he ring the doorbell ? If he arrived at the property and left why didn't he leave a calling card? They also said that although it takes 24 hrs for their records to be updated, they have no knowledge of any changes to the meter. However, I can see that changes definitely have been made, some of the equipment looks new (it was in a very dusty condition with cobwebs) and it may have been moved down a few inches. This is very strange PS: I'm the home owner and the meter is not prepayment and I have had no written notification about changes or cards put through the letterbox.
  2. But what are they allowed to do or not allowed to do? How do I find out what has been done?
  3. I made an appointment for today my gas and electric meters to be read and patiently waited inside listening for the doorbell. I had unlocked the cupboard housing the meter (in the porch) as well as the porch door in preparation for the visit. Nobody rang and after waiting all day, I checked the meters in the porch cupboard and it looks like someone has been and the eqiupment has been changed. Everything looks very clean and cobweb free and a label off the old electric meter has been unpeeled and replaced. There are also new L and N labels stuck on the wiring. I can't work out if the meters have been inspected and cleaned, or if new equipment has been added. Are metermen allowed to enter a property and do this without ringing the doorbell to alert the property owner (especially when an appointment had been made) or leaving a note to say what has happened? Are they allowed to make changes to the equipment without informing the property owner? By the way I have a password set up on my account so that I can check who it is at the door. This does not feel right and I am suspicious. What could have been going on?

    Jsa & ni

Thanks for the advice flumps. The JSA team have asked me to complete a GL24 form which they need to receive back with evidence within a month otherwise I loose my right to contest their decision. Is it the GL24 form that will lead to an appeal? Although I have phoned, I only have 2 weeks to get the evidence back to them as it has already taken 2 weeks for their letter to reach me in the post. I'm concerned if I send them a letter with the P60s instead of the GL24 form, they may refuse to reconsider my claim on the basis I have not provided them with the correct paperwork within the limited time period.

    Jsa & ni

My application for contributions based jsa has been refused due to lack of NI contributions, even though I have worked full time for the last 20 years up until recently. I contacted my tax office who confirmed I have paid sufficient national insurance to qualify and their records about me are correct and up to date. So I went back to the JSA department to ask whether they will reconsider the decision and double check their records to see if the NI details for me are correct. They told me they will not reconsider the decision and I have to appeal by completing a form and approaching my previous employer for evidence and getting this back to them within a limited time period and the onus is on me. My question is whether there is an easier way for my jsa application to be reconsidered and whether they can double check my details without the need for a labourious appeal that may result in a tribunal?
