  1. I have just gone to make a payment direct to Chandlers on line and have found that it has gone up £18!! I was in all week and heard no one knock. Also, nothing has been put through the door. Is there any way of getting them to prove they have been round and claim that back? Thanks
  2. Thanks Hallowitch Its really more having the answer for when they do visit at the mo. They havent been yet and the car is hidden through the day but i want it back on the drive overnight where it is secure. It was more the need to know when i have to get the car off the drive by and when i can put it back on really.
  3. Hi Just a quick question. What time of day can a bailiff call round to your home for council tax debt? I read somewhere it was normal office hours, between 8AM-6PM. Is this correct? Many thanks
  4. Thanks Hallowitch. Paid the ticket on line earlier!! So what if he does clamp the car? He will then expect me to do some kind of payment plan? Then release it? Also, the car is on a padlocked drive. Will that make any difference?
  5. Thanks again for all the advice. I went out this morning at first light to move the car off the drive. There is literally no where else to leave the car so i put it on a side street. Went to it this morning as we were going out and had a parking ticket!! So really worth it!! The debt is in my (now wife's) name. The car is also in her name. Can she transfer the car into my name to avoid the car being 'her property'? The debt and car are in her name from before we were married a couple of weeks ago. If they were to levy on the chickens and any other bits in the garden, can they still levy on the car at a later date? Thanks again
  6. So i need to empty the garden of any valuables and hide the car to avoid a levy. But knowing what these apes are like, could they levy on my chicken and its coup? It seems so stupid that to avoid a levy and pay the council, i need to live like a hermit until its all paid off. Am i going to be continually pestered by this person if he cant find my car and cant levy on anything and i pay the council? Will he realise he isn't going to get anything and get lost? Thanks
  7. Thats something i dont understand. How can they clamp the car if a payment is being made? The debt is with the council isnt it? These highly trained individuals are only collecting the debt for them?
  8. Thanks Hallowitch Can he still clamp the car if we have already made payment(s) to the council? Many thanks
  9. Thank you so much for looking that up. Is it likely to be the same person as he registered in Gateshead and im in Wiltshire? Also, any more info on what he can do with the car? Can he clamp it?
  10. The baliffs name is signed M Carter and is dated 19/05/11 and had the Debt of £659.94 plus stat fee £24.50. The car was not at home whilst we were on honeymoon and its not on finance or anything like that.
  11. Hi all I have been reading up on here for a few hours now and am in need of a little advice. On returning from our honeymoon on Saturday, we found a letter had been posted from Chandlers requesting £750 in council tax fees. This was a surprise to me........ but my other half!! The letter stated the total value needed to be paid in full by return or they would send a window licker round to try and scare us. Since then, she has contacted a debt advice company that advised us to do a spread sheet outlining expenses and what we have left to live on. This was sent to Chandlers on Tuesday. This morning, we have received two letters from them (both the same!) saying this is something that can not be done from the office. The letter reads and i quote " Your comments have been noted with regards to your wanting to make an arrangement to clear your account. Unfortunately we are unable to make an arrangement with you in the office. Please contact Chandlers on the above telephone number and leave a contact number for yourself. We will then get a bailiff to contact you by telephone to make an appointment for a bailiff to visit your property to levy on goods and for you to sign a walking possession agreement; you will then have a secure arrangement and prevent any further costs being added to your account, as long as the arrangement is being maintained. When the bailiff calls at your property to make an arrangement there will be a further charge incurred on your account, which will be explained at the time, and the 1st instalment will be due." So that was the letter we had today. After reading on here, the plan i have is when the bald headed individual with impressive numerate skills and the IQ of a flea does call round, to not welcome him in. Also, start making payments to the council via its on-line/phone payment system. Its quite annoying as we have the curtains closed down stairs to ensure that the mobile **** bag is unable to peer through the window and make a list of items using block print (no long or joined up letters) on his levy sheet and sticking it through the door. The main problem is hiding the car. If the sub-human does not enter the house, he is unable to issue a WPA and they also cannot pursue greater levels of persuasion as we will be making regular payments to the council. So if the car is on the drive (at the back of the house) what can be done? He can note what the car is on the drive and with massive brain ache and pain, deduce and come to the conclusion that would make it our car but with no WPA signed, what can happen? Can it be clamped? I'm guessing that by making the payments to the council, the debt is being paid and as long as proof of payments is kept, its two fingers (though i doubt he could count the two fingers) to them and there is nothing they can do? After reading all the nightmare stories, i have realised two things. We still live in a developing country at best, to allow this kind of thing to continue, and its more hassle that its worth entering into a WPA and allowing these 'individuals' into your home. Any advice would be very welcome Many thanks
