  1. I was told by the National Debt Line in the UK that going the UK-Canada-US route was a possibility for DCA's/Creditors for United States residents. However from my understanding this would require a CCJ in the UK for which I don't think the OP has mentioned yet.
  2. Received a "Schedule of Litigation" from HFO to my previous UK address, stating they will take this to court shortly, and I should be expecting a claim form from the Northampton County Court. Wonder if I could receive some advice. When making a defence, do I simply state I am not a resident in England & Wales, and attach proof that HFO are aware of this?
  3. Another update, HFO sent a 72 Hour litigation notice to my old address in the UK, mentioning pursuing a CCJ.
  4. Hey there hatehfo, I have not, although like you I received the same garbage they sent to my employer, to my home address a while ago. I like how you can clearly see that they manually entered "Phoenix, Arizona" and the rest of the document is a template. My parents haven't received any further calls or mail either back in the UK. I'm sure I haven't heard the last from them, however.
  5. BrokeBob, Thanks for this information. I had looked regarding Arizona and it's 6 years for credit card debt for statute of limitations. I'm unsure if it will go that far however. I received a letter addressed to my employer today from HFO with what seems to be the usual threatening inquiry for payment. Is this considered against the OFT guidelines? What I find interesting is that they have specifically showed my UK equifax credit report with the debts circled, and this also shows my last year on the electoral roll as 2006. Wouldn't this all be good evidence for showing a court that HFO know I am no longer a resident if they do try for a CCJ? They also go on about how they know I'm in the United States, will get a judgement and then transfer it to Arizona. They also apparantly know my financial situation and know I can pay so the matter will not be dropped.. they also attached what seem to be a generic judgement Question & Answer document. Should this be a matter of continue to ignore & hold on to any documentation until they file a CCJ?
  6. Regarding the CCJ, I understand they can go through with this as a default at my last UK address. They obviously know I'm overseas, but I would have no proof of this other than the calls. Would a letter to the DCA stating I am overseas but acknowledging no debt help with this?
  7. Is there also a letter I can send asking for communication in writing only to the UK address they have? or would this merely encourage them more. Edit* never mind, I found it in the library.
  8. I found out this is for only 1 of the 4 credit cards. Would it be recommended to try to work out a settlement? I'm unable to make any regular payment but I could try to see if I could make a final settlement somehow. Would this alert my credit card and potential other creditors? Or is ignoring my best solution at this point. Thanks everyone again, I will be making a small donation to CAG.
  9. I just spoke to my father at my previous residence in the UK and he received a letter from them regarding this. He also spoke to the gentleman on the phone, and they are threatening to send bailiffs around to my previous residence, and they said they know the state I live in, my wife and my employer. (probably from social networking site as others suggested). They also stated they will request the debt from over here now that they have a dossier on my information. I am a little perplexed now, continuing to ignore this probably won't make the calls stop now.
  10. One more question regarding this. Would these voice mails be considered contacting me and restart the 6 year clock for Statute Barred? Or does it have to be written confirmation from me? I've read some conflicting information. Thanks again.
  11. Just an update to this, the same person left a message on my managers voice mail today. Other than telling my employer I am receiving nuisance calls, there's not much else I can do with this until they quit?
  12. Thanks for everyone's responses. My concern is even if the 6 years passes, and the debt is not legally enforceable from the UK, what are the odds that it is transferred to a US DCA and legal matters begin over here, is it still not enforceable? I assume the worst they could do is hurt my credit if it is transferred to the US.
  13. Hello Everyone, I left the UK about 4 and a half years ago with debt that unfortunately I was unable to pay. It was about 8,000 GBP made up of 4 separate credit cards. The last time I made a payment was roughly the same time. Recently a voice message was left on my work phone, transferred from one of our customer service departments. The message was from a gentleman asking me to call him in London about an "urgent matter". I have found the number provided is for HFO Services, Debt recovery company. How should I proceed from here? I don't have any information on amount owed, how many of the credit cards this is regarding, etc. I presume they do not have my home address and I don't have a home phone. Thanks for any input, Mark.
