The alternator failed on my car and was replaced by a garage in Surrey for £250 in May of this year. The same part has now failed again, which has rendered the car unusable (these parts should last for many years – maybe even the life of a car). I’ve spoken to the garage they’ll only honour the warranty (1 year) if I get the car to them complete with the part fitted. However I live in Wiltshire so it would be expensive to get my car transported down to Surrey. I’m therefore having to resort to using a local garage in Swindon to replace the faulty part again. I will keep hold of the failed part and I still have the original garage invoice. Is there anything that I can do to get a refund for the failed part (and maybe the labour costs of having it fitted)? The garage in Surrey are refusing to refund the part if I take it down to them – they say it must still be attached to the car.
