  1. hi there, just bought a car from a a dealer, part of a chain of 5 garages all run under the same name and presumably same legal entity. they do MOT's, services, repairs, etc. This all leads me to believe that my purchase is LEGITIMATE. HOWEVER: On check of provided past MOT documents and online check of the MOT history for the car, the first MOT is done 5 years after registration of the car and at 37k miles. As far as I know MOT is done once the car is 3 years old (car is 2001). All the documents I do have match up with the online history but like I say, starts at 37k miles which seems fishy to me. Just to add, the garage I purchased from is also the same garage that did the last MOT (2 days ago) The other extremely worrying thing is that once I had made the payment I had fully expected and assumed the man to take out the V5 document and have me fill out my details and sign (I sold my car 2 days prior so was familiar with the process from that). The problem is that the guy told me the form had already been sent of to DVLA to save time and when I asked for the buyer's section 10 he told me the whole thing had been sent off. At the time i didn't worry as I forgot all about the signature being required and trusted them as they were a chain of 5 garages and seemed to be running a big, smooth operation at the garage I was at with more than 6 mechanics in sight. i have service history which I will attempt to verify tomorrow. Should I be worried? What can I do? I am going to call them to question them about my signature being required on the form but is there anything else? Can I call DVLA to confirm whether they have received the document or not? I did an HPI check prior to purchasing the vehicle and everything came up clean. I want to get the car serviced and sort out a few cosmetic issues but I do not want to waste time and money on the car until I know for sure I am now the registered keeper. Responses much appreciated!
