  1. Hi, I'm after a bit of advice regarding reclaiming PPI from Bank of Scotland for my two credit card accounts. I've read a lot of posts and articles relating to the process of filling in the FOS questionnaire when submitting a claim. However the BoS website provides a telephone number also. So, which is the better method of claiming - phone or form? Thanks in advance! G
  2. Hello, I haven't visited the forums for a while but hope someone can help with the following situation... At the start of June I received a letter from my local authority (east ayrshire) stating that as I hadn't made any payments towards this years account they were adding 10% and demanding full payment immediately. This was because of an oversight - I thought my wife was paying it and she thought I had been paying it - and I immediately contacted them via e-mail to acknowledge their letter and make a proposal for repayment of the arrears over 2 months, and then continue making the normal instalments thereafter. They agreed to this - in writing (via e-mail) - although they said if I didn't comply with the agreement the account would be passed to a Sheriff Officer for recovery. To date I have made the agreed payments and have receipts to support this but this morning - 3 weeks after they accepted my proposal - I received a letter from the sheriff officer demanding full payment! To say I'm upset is an understatement as they have in my opinion reneged on the agreement. So th question is, what now? Of course I'm going to e-mail them all the original correspondence and demand answers but can they legally do this? Hope someone can offer some hints! Thanks Bob
  3. My father passed away just over 11 months ago, leaving behind no assets and a current account with an outstanding overdraft of around £1.5k. He and my mother live(d) in a rented property and apart from a small life policy had no other savings or assets. The proceeds of the life policy (£4k) were sufficient to cover the cost of the funeral and the outstanding overdraft owed to the bank, and at the time eveyrthing was tied up and settled within 21 days of his death. Shortly after that however a statement for a credit card turned up in the post showing an outstanding balance of some £2.5k. At the time of his death we were unaware that he had the credit card (no card has ever been found in his belongings) and upon receipt of the statement we wrote to the proivder, Citi Finance, advising of his death and including a copy of the death certificate. They acknowledged receipt of our letter within a couple of weeks and advised that the balance wasn't insured and stood at x amount. In turn we responded - in writing - advising that he left behind no assets from which this sum could be paid and that was the last we heard of it. Until now. Today, 3 weeks prior to the first anniversary of his death, my mother received a letter from a company called Phillips & Cohen advising they had purchased the debt from Citi and that the balance was to be collected (I haven't read the letter yet so cannot say more on its content). I'm looking for some advice on how we should deal with this. I'd normally go in "all guns blazing", since 1) the original creditor is aware of the fact that their client is dead, and 2) given the timing, but want to make sure we cover all bases as I'm aware these debt collection companies can be "difficult" to deal with. It's worth noting that the account was in my fathers name only and there was no secondary cardholders (otherwise we'd have been aware at the time) Thanks in advance Bob
