  1. 2 years ago I tried Champix - after two weeks on the pills I still wanted to smoke so gave up on it. March this year I decided on a whim to try it again (I have tried everything else out there over my 40 year habit of 30+ cigs a day). Within a week I had quit smoking - just didn't want them anymore. I am proud to say that I am still smoke free 15 weeks later! I had no side effects other than maybe I dreamed a little more vividly - or at least remembered my dreams more. I would still be smoking if it wasn't for Champix - in 15 weeks alone it has saved me over $1050.00 on what I would be spending on cigs!
  2. WTG Maggie!! Keep up the great thing you have started for yourself. It sure is nice NOT having to dish out all that money at the local store for the cigs.
  3. Thanks Jack and Gwen (guessing names from your log on's there). I never thought I could do it - REALLY - but am so happy that now I have. Last Friday I had a real test of sorts - found out my youngest son had been in a head on collision with a car (him on a bike) - he lives across the country from me and I was on pins and needles with my other son out there thru Blackberry getting min by min updates from the hospital. If I had had my hands on a cig it would have lost the battle - but luckily I didn't get any and wasn't around any. My son is now out of the hospital and recouping at home. When you are ready - you will be able to quit!
  4. Its been a long time for me.....40 years at more than a pack a day. Over the years I have tried everything....cold turkey, hypnosis, acupuncture, Zyban, patches, gums, inhalers, etc Two years ago my doc gave me a prescription for Champix - tried it and I guess I still wasn't ready. This year in March I wasn't feeling well (sinuses) and went to renew meds for it but on the way to the pharmacy I decided to ask if I could renew my Champix as well......I had no plans to do this but just did it and started taking them that day. By the next Thursday I was smoke free!!! It has now been over 3 months, I am not taking the meds any more and still not smoking. In 40 years I have NEVER gone this long before and feel I have found success. I didn't have any side effects to the Champix - and even though I might think occasionally about wanting a cig - that passes pretty quickly. My morning coughing stopped during week 2 of not smoking. One thing that really surprised me was how quickly after not smoking that I would notice smokers by their smell. I never noticed this when I was a smoker but I sure do now. Whether it be walking past them in a store or them coming up to my desk at work - I sure can tell who smokes. I guess I always smelled like that to others.....glad I don't anymore! It feels good to me a non smoker!! A lesson learned here - if you don't succeed the first time - try again!
