  1. I've just had a result today.... A short time ago i browsed cf for any info on claiming back what i believed to be unfair charges on my partners bank account. She had been charged on numerous occasions for late payments of standing orders and dd's,whilst the money going into her account was social security benefits,(child benefit, child tax credits,j.s.a etc.) I'd read somewhere that under the Social Security Administration Act 1992,that it was illegal for banks to impose charges on moneys from benefits payments. We then contacted the bank to be told that they dont refund charges, and were left feeling robbed and frustrated. I later found online the email address of the chief executive of nationwide-Graham Beale.( [email protected]). I downloaded a template of a letter demanding refunds of the unfair charges and stating the social security administration act,and that i would proceed with court action had i not heard from them or recieved the refunds within 7 days.I had an email the next day from mr beales 'team'.After a couple of conversations over the phone and had sent proof of the reciept of benefits,we had this morning recieved a letter from Nationwide's Operations manager, apologising and and agreeing to refund us all of the charges on the account within ten days time.Result!! so to anyone viewing this who is on benifits and has had any of that benefit money taken from they're accounts due to charges....you can get it back....it is illegal.....the banks know it,but unless you do anything about they will continue to charge you!!.One thing the banks dont tell you is that theres a 'bill payment' option that you decide when the payment goes out unlike direct debits or standing orders..this would be a better option for people on benefits.
