hi there, wonder if anyone out there can help us. my ex posted on here a few weeks but the thread has now been closed. i signed 3 documents for a friend (not now) back in 2005. he asked me to sign as a character reference. at the time of signing (friend) another person came to where i was working at the time. neither parties said anything to the contrary to make me think i was signing for anything other than a character reference. the documents i signed had printed small print on, but apart from this nothing else (ie nothing hand written). to cut a very long story short, i have rec'd a letter from the county court/backhorse for 26k. i have to file a defence by monday so any help will go a long way in helping me in this matter. acknowledgement of service has already been delivered to the courts. particulars of claim by black horse (as follows) claimant blackhorse ltd defendant my name (though spelt incorrecly) following termination of a hire agremeent not regulated by the consumer credit act 1974 the goods have been recovered and sold. the creditors claim is for the unpaid arrears of the rentals due together with the furthe rsum set out in the agreement. 1/date of agreement 17/2/2005 2/parties thereto blackhose ltd and defedant(s) 3/arrears due at termination 8155.14 4/further sum due (being the balance of future rentals) 17025.78 5/total claimed 25, 180.92 this is the first and only letter i have ever rec'd from blackhorse regarding this and understandably i am troubled. i have never had any dealings with blackhorse, have never owned/rented/hired any vehicle from them, have never paid them any sums etc. plse help!!!! URGENT
