Hi Folks, I know its been a while.... We got him and the money back.... **** bag was well at it. My advice..... Dont accept paypal for collection in person. It leaves you as a seller vulnerable. Paypal only covers items that are damaged in transit, lost in the post, not as described etc. I have just sold something this morning and the buyer got upset because I refunded the paypal for a collection in person. I requested cash on collection or other direct means of payment. Thanks for your help a couple of years ago folks... Hard work gets the bad guy in the end... I would rather not have the hassle though!!!

Paypal have been very obstructive and will not provide details of their own investigation to myself or the investigating officers. It's hard work!

My difficulty is that you MUST offer paypal as a payment option! Howcan this be? Does that rule out collection items?

Ebays strength is with its cutomers. No customers, no ebay.. I dont think they regulate well enough. Despite emailing them and advising of my current position, I will get nothing in return apart from automated responses. I have just had one from paypal stating that they could not take the 197 pounds that I have had stolen, from my bank account. Funny that. I emailed them three days ago explaining that I had removed all of my bank account details. Maybe if they read that, they may well understand why.

Hi everyone, thanks for your responses. I have carried out some ground work and am currently looking into ebay/paypal in depth. I have serious concners about the number of unnecessary victims of crime that have been generated as a result. I am hoping to create a one page blog with a survey attached giving people the opportunity to say yes they have been a victim of crime as the result of using ebay, the year they where a victim, the amount of financial loss they suffered, etc... I am getting nothing but automated responses from ebay/paypal at the moment. The good news, I have CCTV of my suspects, a car, and we are hot on their tails!

I got it, Well I guess I had better introduce myself.. I am a Police officer of 12 years london service, I have the outmost integrity, caught some of the most hardened criminals in London, been given the freedom of the city and have a lovely certificate to prove it, and just got scammed!!!!

My concern is how paypal make this so easy! (for suspects) As they walk hand in hand with ebay, they are an open marking for [problematic]/criminals. I am sure I am one of millions!!.

Clamping, yes. He signed a piece of paper. stating the goods had been collected. (currently off for fingerprints) Paypal keep deferring my call asking for it in writing. I emailed, they have not responded. I have a team looking into it locally. I need to be very careful not to compromise the investigation. As the Victim, my stance has to remain somewhat distant. This goes very much against my character!

Noom, the most infuriating thing is, I had a criminal on my own doorstep. My gloves where off, I handed over my property to him in good faith and let him walk away believing that the transaction was genuine. The good thing is, I never forget a face. I am trying to get address details from paypal and ebay.. Funny enough, its impossible. Eaby replied saying, we appreciate its easier to talk on the phone but we do not practice this facility!! Through all my transaction with paypal over the past couple of years, I must have payed at least £400 in fees!

The April fool thing is funny. Some of the property I recovered from the previous post was from a well know Celebrity. I had to contact them regarding returning some items to them. They thought it was an April fool too! It was a nightmare trying to convince them I actually had recovered their stolen property! I didn't even notice it was April the 1st!

Normally I am very thorough with things. Most of this was carried out over my mobile phone. It just so happens, on the day this happened, I busted a guy for thousands of pounds worth of stolen property. It was a delight returning them to the rightful owners. Once I get home, and your with your family, your mindset changes. Work is at work, home is at home. I think this is what is grinding me!

It was cancelled about 30mins after collection. They paid on the date of collection, about 30mins before. I was returning home from work. Paypal showed payment completed. I withdrew the money to my account whilst stuck in traffic on the same day payment was recieved, paypal showed completed. The individual arrived, money was clear goods taken. Paypal emailed to say the buyer has asked his/her bank to reverse payment. ID provided by individual collecting the same as that of the paypal account holder.

I think I am really going to push the court action. If I request that the incident be heard in court, surely they cant keep threatening me? I agree. After this happened I had a good look at the T&C. They are VERY ropey! They shouldn't show funds received, funds cleared, funds successfully transferred to your bank account so easily. When the guy arrived and the money was in my bank account, I couldn't turn around and say, oh yeah. Im not giving you the xbox.

Yeah, It is highly likely that it was either a false ID and false address. The buyer reversed the charge. There are issues about me getting him. Ok, I did a little search for him on the our systems but I cant 'get' him as this would compromise any prosecution. Just look at Ali Dezi the mug!! Anyway, I emailed paypal said there system is highly flawed and I would like evidence that they have carried out a thorough investigation. 4 emails isn't really enough! I am, at the first request for the money back, going to ask them to take me to court over this. This should in effect avoid silly letters and get us strait to the point.
