  1. This is the issue - i'm not at a fixed address as yet (am switching between the few friends i still have!) however the council have stated they have since used a company who traced me to my Nan's current address (i did live there about 5 years ago) and said that they would have to send the bailiffs to her address. I've told the council that i havent lived there for a while and she's also 85 so this will cause a huge amount of stress for her! Can they still go ahead with this?? esecially as this has no connection with her at all?!
  2. So there's no way i can just pay my share and be removed from the list... it really is unfair to pin the whole debt onto one person - thanks for the response. Guess all that's left now is to redirect the council to my previous room mates new address.
  3. Hi,Could anyone please help regarding my current setup!?Basically i used to live with 2 other people in a house for 1 year - this was a fixed 1 year tenancy agreement signed by all 3 of us (not shared accomodation). We agreed at the start that all bills where to be made through one person (not me - ill call him person P) however it turns out he didnt pay anything at all to anyone during the whole tenancy. This was 2 years ago and the council have now contacted me through my work(!?!) informing me that im liable to the amount of £1,200. im guessing that as im the only they were able to contact that i'll have to pay but i dont think its fair that i have to pay the full amount!Does anyone know if i can pay just my share (i.e.1/3rd of the amount) and no longer be liable? does anyone know of a previous instance where this has been possible?i would very much appreciate a response if possible!!Thanks in advance! Dave
  4. Not gonna be any chance i can get the money back from them So there's no loop whole or condition where i can only pay may share?
  5. All three of our names are listed on it. Mine, however, is last on the list.
  6. Hi - Hope you can help!! I was living with 3 friends in a house from Nov 09 - Nov 10. Everything went well during the period of Nov - Apr rent, council tax & all bills were paid, and sorted. However from April 2010 (without my knowing) my friend did not continue to pay the council tax and i've now received letters from baillifs stating i owe the full years amount from Apr10-Apr11 plus costs and to pay immediately. My question is am I liable to pay the full amount when all three of our names appeared on the tenancy agreement? I'm happy to pay my share therefore am I able to pay a third and the rest be left for them to pay? I'm also not sure how to determine whether my agreement was shared or joint as i believe the rules regarding liability differs between the two. I am happy to post my agreement on her for review if requested (minus names etc). Any help is appreciated!!!
  7. Thanks for the help guys!! So will the rejections affect any applications i make now? i'm looking to get a loan again and dont want to worsen my credit report any more than it has been!!
  8. Hi, I had a incorrect default issued by Vodafone in August 2009 as i was entered into a further mobile phone contract following a previous 12month contract incorrectly. I have now had this removed (3 months ago) however during december 2009 - March 2010 i made numerous attempts (9 in total - i know i was very stupid!) for loans/credit cards which were of course rejected due to the incorrect default. Im assuming these rejections will appear on my credit record (and banks will notice i have been rejected) therefore how long should i wait before applying for another loan? what affect will all these rejections have on my credit history/score? will future applications notice that these rejections were due to a false default? and finally (a long shot i know - and probably wont be followed up) am i able to claim compensation against vodafone for this defamation as it has caused the rejections of applications & affected my chances of negotiating lower rate loans etc? Any help/advice is much appreciated
  9. Brilliant news!!!! Just out of interest though - if they turn up before i manage to get this sorted (i.e. they take my stuff while im typing this) will the letter still be valid? Oh and i dont have the bailiffs details - any idea of how i can get hold of them without them charging in?
  10. Ive recently moved into a house with 2 friends with a fixed 12month tenancy. Just recently discovered that one of my room mates never paid council tax for last year while he was living alone and owes almost £1500. Since then we've had bailiffs turning up to our new house demanding payment! Id just like clarification on what to expect. i.e. should the bailiffs manage to get into our property will my things also been taken to settle his debt. For info - all 3 of our names are on the tenancy agreement which the bailiffs have got a copy of. Many thanks in advance for any replies
  11. Hi Hallowitch Yes have notified them i've now left the property and have yet to respond. is there absolutely no way around this? i.e. is there anything i can do to show he lived at the address to make him also liable?
  12. Ok the story so far....Im a tenant currently renting a house with my 'friend'.Stupidly, as he had a default on a previous debt i agreed to have only my name on the tenancy agreement itself with my 'friend' living there also with the estate agents fully aware he was resident at the address.Anyway we agreed that i'd pay the full rent amount and that he paid the bills and any discrepancies we'd sort out ourselves. However, I've now received a letter from the council tax office to state no payments had been paid for the 6 months we were living there and that a court summons has been raised for the full yearly amount along with bailiff costs etc. As my name is the only name on the tenancy agreement the council have stated I am the only person liable for this debt. Can someone please offer me advice on how i can actually place the debt back to him? Do i have a leg to stand on? or does it all fall to me to pay...?I'd appreciate any responses!! Good or Bad
