Thanks for your advice and encouragement. I thought I needed to appeal, as that appears to be the advice in the 'Newbie Sticky' on the moneysavingexpert website. However, I am convinced by the helpfulness and confidence exhibited by the CAG community and will happily wait for a letter before action. I have captured the best images of the sign at the entrance to the car park that I could, from Google Street View. It strikes me that no mention/agreement of having to pay £100 could have been seen from the car. The writing is too small. Signs.pdf

For your information, fare evasion is a civil and not a criminal matter. You gave your correct deatils (which not doing so would be the only possible criminal act in this situation) you cannot get a criminal record for this. The court may ask you to pay the penalty or it may just be a bluff to get you to pay (for the company to have a person spend a day in court would probably cost them more than the fine and for this reason they may not go through with it). If there was a long queue at the station you may not be liable for a penalty anyway. Check this link for some info on your rights and the circumstances where a penalty may not be applied (even if you dont have a valid tkt. TfL
