Thanks for your advice and encouragement. I thought I needed to appeal, as that appears to be the advice in the 'Newbie Sticky' on the moneysavingexpert website. However, I am convinced by the helpfulness and confidence exhibited by the CAG community and will happily wait for a letter before action. Thanks all, I'll update if anything interesting happens with the case.

Thanks for your help. I've redacted the PNC number and I've re-uploaded here. I'll see if I can get out there to photograph the signs, but this may be tricky due as its not that close baby schedules don't afford me alot of free time. Edited to add - its not in Plymouth, its in Stafford. UKCPS NTK udated.pdf

For your information, fare evasion is a civil and not a criminal matter. You gave your correct deatils (which not doing so would be the only possible criminal act in this situation) you cannot get a criminal record for this. The court may ask you to pay the penalty or it may just be a bluff to get you to pay (for the company to have a person spend a day in court would probably cost them more than the fine and for this reason they may not go through with it). If there was a long queue at the station you may not be liable for a penalty anyway. Check this link for some info on your rights and the circumstances where a penalty may not be applied (even if you dont have a valid tkt. TfL
