Although I was able to settle all my card accounts in full in May 2008, 4 companies, Egg, RBS(& Mint) and MBNA (took over Beneficial) entered defaults on my record some 6 months later. They claim the actual defaults took place in Dec 2007/Jan 2008. I only found this out in early 2009. I certainly cannot recall receiving any default notices, as I was very careful at the time to deal quickly with anyone who threatened me with one. Egg won't respond at all despite three recorded letters. MBNA keep promising to look into it by a certain date and then fail to do so. RBS (Mint) sent me copies of old statements and a copy of my original agreement, but no copy of a default notice. RBS say that as the account is settled and closed they have no responsibility under the Act to furnish me with any information. In all cases, when I settled the monies owing, I asked for a settlement figure that was sufficient (ie the total amount owing) for them not to enter any adverse comments etc on my credit file. In retrospect, I should have asked for something in writing (which may have taken months), but was so keen to settle things quickly before more interest was added I did not. If any of you better informed members could let me know:- a) Can they enter these defaults at any time to suit them? b) Are RBS correct in what they tell me? Any advice/help gratefully received.
