Can you help?! I recently made an offer on a rental property which was accepted. Unfortunately, I was not able to take the property and I informed the estate agent the next working day. However, in the meantime the Estate Agent had taken £500 from my account (I had provided my card details when I registered with them but was assured that nothing would be taken without my consent). At no time was my permission sought, either verbally or in writing to take this money and at no time did I give this permission to take the money from my account. I talked to the estate agbout it but the lady I was dealing with said she didn't have the authority to organise refunds and despite trying to speak with her manager a number of times, she never seemed to be available. I went to my bank who put me on the the fraud department. However, the fraud department told me that because I had given them my bank details it was a 'retailer dispute' and not fraud. I am confused!! At no time was my permission sought nor given to take these funds and yet neither the bank nor the estate agent is willing to help. Can anyone advise me as to what to do?! Many thanks
