  1. Today I was made redundant. Three weeks ago i received a letter whilst at work stating that my position within the company had been selected for potential redundancy. It said that if possible they would offer me an alternative position within the company. This was on a Friday and the letter stated there would be a meeting on the Tuesday with the managing director of the company and another manager. I attended the Tuesday meeting which lasted approximately 5 minutes where the letter was basically repeated back to me. Then i was told there would be another meeting the following monday at noon and they would inform me of their decision. Later that day (Tuesday), for reasons unknown, the managing director resigned effective immediately. On the monday nobody showed for the meeting and i opted to keep quiet and not ask why the meeting had not taken place (I wasn't about to pursue my redundancy). Nothing more was mentioned....until today! A manager approached me and told me the company director wanted to see me. I asked what it was regarding and i was told that he didn't know. He sat in on the meeting and i was informed that i was being made redundant and given one weeks notice as they were unable to offer me another position within the company. Apart from living through the past 3 weeks with the worry of a potential redundancy notice constantly on my mind, what made this even harder to swallow was that they employed somebody else 2 days before handing me my potential redundancy letter. I had mentioned this at the first meeting and asked how they could employ somebody on the Wednesday and hand me a notice of potential redundancy on the Friday. I was told "different area of the company" to which i reminded them that they had stated in the letter that they would offer me another position if they were able and asked them why that position wasn't made available to me. I was offered no answer to this question. A little more information : I had been with the company for 11 months. I was working as a labourer ( The person employed 2 days before i received the letter is also employed as a labourer only in a different area of the company). The only correspondence i have regarding the redundancy is the letter i was initially given. I am very angry at the way this has been handled. The incompetence of the company and complete disregard for a employee has left me feeling extremely bitter. Do i have a case for unfair dismissal? Any help would be greatly appreciated
