  1. Nice reply, I'll give it a try when handing the letter over. He has not been back as yet but we have had a few phone calls that ask for him or we say hello and we just get silence but we know that someone is on the line.
  2. Thanks for your reply, I'm not holding out much hope but approaching the bank is worth a try.
  3. Thanks, I am in the process of writing to the bank. I will let everyone know how what happens next.
  4. Thanks, I am in the process of writing a letter of complaint to the bank and will let everyone know how it goes, I will ask to his debt written off and see what their reply is. Still waiting for Moorcroft to visit again.
  5. I think that when he comes, I'll see what he's got to say before I give him the letter. I have loads of confidence now thanks to everyone who has offered their advice here on CAG, but I want to see just how far he is prepared to go with his lies. My phone has voice recording facilities so I hope to record everything he says and see how far he is prepared to go with his threats. I hope it records ok, I will put what he says on the forum in his exact words. I'll hand him the CAG template letter when he has verbally hung himself. I will update as soon as I have more info. Thanks again.
  6. He's not been back as yet but I will keep everyone updated so that that anyone else being pestered by a doorstep caller might get some reassurance from the advice that has been given to me.
  7. Thanks for the info, that makes sense of him being on commision, it would account for his arrogant attitude. It is now several days since he knocked on the door and he's not been back as yet. Now that I know how these things work has been a great help so I await his return with added confidence. Thanks again.
  8. Thanks Bazooka Boo, I will be more confident now I understand how things work. To be honest I opened the door expecting a parcel delivery but all I got was a load of threats as at first the collector presumed the debt was mine until corrected. They were not violent threats but they had a strong aggressive tone of authority about him with statements of what his intentions were and that my Son must abide by his instructions as he needed a positive result to the matter. I said that my Son had no assets as I thought this bloke was a bailiff and he did nothing to say he wasn't a bailiff it was only when I started to think that I asked if he was a debt collector or a bailiff and my answer from him was abrupt, short and to the point by him saying "FIRST ONE (meaning a debt collector), I WILL BE BACK TONIGHT" as he walked away. He didn’t impersonate a bailiff but failed to say he wasn't one until I asked. I will write to the LTSB about the account which my so opened when he was aged 19. The bank should have realised that offering him credit was wrong. I asked my Son to open an account but just a basic one with just cash point card and direct debit facilities which was written down for him so there would be no mistake of the type of account required. Because of his problems he just agreed to what they gave him. I asked him what the bank had said to him and apparently he was told that a free upgrade to a full account was the much better option for him rather than the one he had asked for. Thanks again, I will keep everyone updated.
  9. He never turned up last night although he threatened too. I suppose he will at some point. I will keep everyone updated as I hope that my experiences coupled with the replies from CAG members will hopefully help others.
  10. Thanks for asking, I really do appreciate the forum and everyones help. He was supposed to come back again last night but as yet I am still waiting with my CAG letter ready to hand to him. I will add updates on to the original listing if I am able to so that forum readers can see a running account of proceedings. I hope that other people in a similar position get reassurance from my experiences with Moorcroft etc.
  11. Hi, Please can anyone offer some urgent advice ? A very stern Moorcroft debt collector has visited my home today looking for my Son. I asked if he was a debt collector or a bailiff and he sternly replied "The first one". My son aged 22, has health problems and learning difficulties. As a result he cannot hold down a full time job and now works for just 90 minutes a day earning just £87 per week stacking shelves in a local shop. Prior to working at the shop he wanted to start a small business as a market trader and purchased a small amount of stock. He went to Lloyds Bank to open a very basic bank account. It is evident to anyone that through conversation it is easy to see that he has learning difficulties but the bank talked him into opening an account with a £1000 overdraft and sent him a credit card with £1000 limit. We tried to offer advice about being careful but before long he was spending the money on stock for his market stall. The next thing we know is that he had spent all of the money on a business venture that was doomed from the very start. Today 15th November 2011, I answered a knock on the door and was greeted by an arrogant little man who demanded to see my son. I explained that he wasn't in and I was handed a Moorcroft debt recovery card with the name of the collector (John) and a phone number on it. He asked when my son would be in and I truthfully replied that I did not know to which he sternly replied "I WILL BE BACK TONIGHT" I replied that I did not know what time my son would be back and he said abruptly "SEE YOU TONIGHT" as he walked down the drive. I will not let me son see this bloke on his own because of his inability to understand what is being said. I am further concerned that because I suffer with Multiple Sclerosis and depressive illness so I have a limited income that they will demand payment from me that I cannot afford. Can someone please tell me what to do. The house is owned by our local Council so I don't know if I can legally stop him from calling as I do not own it. Is there some sort of letter that I can give to him to stay away ? Does he have any legal rights as he is not a bailiff ? Finally if a Bailiff calls how do I prove that my son has no assets of his own ? Can they take what is mine and how do I prove ownership ?. Thanks. UPDATE ! Thank you to everyone who has offered advice. I will post the outcome of tonights visit on here. I've got a CAG letter printed ready to hand to him. He didn't give a reference or account number it just says John, being the representitives name along with a mobile phone number. In view of this I have addressed and altered the template letter as follows.... ************************************************************************** Sons Name and address here Moorcroft Debt Recovery LTD Moorcroft House P O Box No. 17 2 Spring gardens, Stockport, Cheshire, SK1 4AJ Dear Sir (John) or any other representative, agent or employee of Moorcroft Debt Recovery LTD weather employed or self employed. Regards M P I have tried posting individual replies but I'm not to sure of how to use the website as yet so to ensure that you all see my reply I've added this message. Thank you again to everyone that answered my request for help.
  12. Thanks again to all those who have offered valuable advice. With your help my parents have agreed that this company is just using bully boy tactics in an attempt to gain payment. They have agreed to ignore all future letters from this company. I will keep the forum updated as to what future threats are received from Excel so that our experience can hopefully help others in a similar situation. Thanks again. All the best, Nick
  13. Thank you to all those who have replied, I will collect their future letters that they send to my Dad and ignore everything from now on. From what I see they are nothing more than a bunch of crooks, how the hell they can prey on vulnerable people is beyond me. Thanks again, Nick
  14. Has anyone had any recent problems with Excell Parking Services ? Hi to everyone, Firstly, I would like to thank anyone in advance who can help me with some advice. I’m acting on behalf of my father but I may be unavailable to reply for a couple of days but at least my father will hopefully have a few replies to read in my absence. I'm just in the process of fighting a so called “parking fine” with Excel on behalf of my father who has recently had heart surgery and has walking difficulties. He entered the car park that is controlled by Excel parking services and parked in a parking bay. He simply got distracted by conversation and walked to a local shop. He then realised his error that he had not purchased a parking ticket and immediately walked back to the car park and duly paid for 2 hours of parking time. He then innocently continued with his shopping trip safe in the knowledge that he had paid. A week or so later he was shocked as he received a parking fine of £60.00, rising too £100 if it remains unpaid. I contacted Excel to explain that my father has had recent heart surgery and suffers mobility problems and explained that he had paid his parking fee Excel wrote back saying that my father had been on the car park for 88 minutes out of his 2 hour period which Excel agreed in a written letter. The “fine” was issued for paying his parking fee just SEVEN MINUTES LATE !!!. Apparently they allow you 10 minutes “goodwill” time in which to pay and collect a ticket. My fathers ''crime'' was to pay just SEVEN MINUTES LATE of their 10 minute goodwill allowance. At no time has Excel lost any parking fee revenue as the fee was paid 17 minutes after parking and for 2 hours of which 88 minutes were used for parking. I will be fighting this all the way to court, if it ever goes that far. I've written several letters in reply to Excel’s correspondence on behalf of my Dad to save my father any worry and stress but Excel will not let the matter go. I wrote a further letter to them explaining of the worry they are causing my parents. In the letter last letter to them I said that I would hold them personally responsible if my father was made ill due to his poor health , I was polite but firm and said that the TV and newspapers would love to hear a story like this. Their response was to ignore me completely and write DIRECTLY to my father with their threats of debt collection and court proceedings. I can only consider that this a very unpleasant scare tactic, but my Mother is getting very concerned by the fact that they will not give up and thinks my father must pay the “parking fine”. I cannot afford for either of my parents to have unnecessary stress as my Mother had a pacemaker fitted last year. Obviously given my parent’s ages and the fact that my father has had recent heart surgery, I am in the process of writing to them again giving clear instructions that ALL further correspondence must go through me. Has anyone else had problems with Excel and please can you tell me where we legally stand. Just to clarify, my father was photographed entering the car park. He then simply got distracted before going to pay and get his ticket which was 17 minutes after entering the car park. He then went innocently went about completing his shopping trip with my mother before returning to his car. He was photographed again leaving the car park 88 minutes after entering. Excel have lost no parking fee revenue as my father had paid for 120 minutes, he used only 88 minutes of his parking allowance. At no time did his car leave the car park so this isn’t a case of not paying it is an argument that my Dad paid 17 minutes after entering the car park, his crime is that Excel give a 10 minutes allowance to buy a ticket. My Dad paid for his ticket 7 minutes later which means they are trying to charge him a colossal £8.57 for every minute that he was late paying. Talk about legalised highway robbery. Look forward to hearing your advice. All the best, Nick.
  15. Thank you. I appreciate every persons advice. This letter template will be sent to Provident today. Thanks again.
  16. Got my sign on the door and will let you know if the get a drenching.
  17. BRILLIANT THANKS. A laminated bright yellow sign will be on my door by this afternoon.
  18. Thanks for showing me this. I've just looked at the online magazine. It is sickening to think that awards can be given to the best debt collector. You can just imagine their smirking faces when they receive their award for destroying peoples lives. Until today, I had no idea that such a magazine or corporation exists. I wonder if anyone has ever informed the newspapers about this, it would make a great story.
  19. THANK YOU TO EVERY PERSON WHO HAS OFFERED THEIR HELP. I now have something to fight back with. Thanks, for the info & sorry for the late reply and a "BIG" THANK YOU to everyone who has helped me. I suffer with Multiple Sclerosis & I've not been too well over the last few days, hence my late reply, sorry. It seems to me that Provident are a very underhanded company who prey on the people who need the most help. I think a law should be passed to cap interest rates and perhaps have this company investigated. They are commiting legalised robbery in my opinion. Thanks once again, I hope that I can be of help to someone in the future.
  20. Thanks for the advice. I'm probably wrong but I was told that the registered address was not for Provident but for a place such as their accountants or book keepers & that any correspondence won't actually reach the collections office.
