Hi all, I'm helping my partner with a claim against Clydesdale Bank. There are a number of charges in the past couple of years, but recently he had incurred some charges. When money was deposited in the account to cover a direct debit the bank immediately took off charges and put the account back into unauthorised overdraft, incurring more charges. This went on with a charge of 25 pounds being added every five days. We sent the standard letters off, and also wrote to the branch manager and disputed the overdraft amount due to the charges. We've now received the statements requested, although only up to December 2005 for some unknown reason. We also received a letter from their collection department in Leeds. They claim a balance of nearly four hundred pounds is outstanding and overdue. They name my partner and some woman who neither of us have ever heard of and who has never lived at the address as owing this and have the type of account wrong. They also state that information relating to the debts they claim are owed will be lodged with Credit Reference Agencies 28 days from the date of the letter if they are not paid. And also threaten to add an Administration Charge if they have to write to him and the mystery lady again. I'd really appreciate some advice as to how to proceed now. We need to avoid this mob recording a default for their ever mulitplying charges.
