  1. I had a call from an elderly sounding woman from a company called Pennine yesterday asking to speak to my wife. She was out at the time so the conversation went: Them: I need to speak to Mrs X regarding a personal financial matter. Me: Pennine - sorry I've never heard of you - who are you? Them: It's Pennine regarding a personal financial matter (sounding a bit vexed already!) Me: Sorry, I've no idea who you are. Them: Look, is Mrs X there? Me: You can speak to me - I'm her husband - we don't have any secrets - we share everything. Them: Sorry, it's Data Protection. IS she there or what?! (more vexed!) Me: Look - I'm not speaking to you - if you want to contact my wife you must do so in writing and you must not phone again. If you do I'll report you to the Financial Ombusdman and Ofcom. Then I put the phone down feeling pretty pleased. The bitch then phoned back after about 20 minutes - I didn't answer and let it go to answerphone - "Message for Mrs X regarding a personal financial matter - please ring Pennine urgently" - I could tell from the way she sounded that I'd ****ed her right off so she was clearly having a go at getting her own back! I was vexed by this point so I rang them, pretended to be on a really bad line and kept reading out a made up account number. I also asked to speak to "Dave" - "Hello Dave. Is that Dave?! Is Dave there?! My wife would like to use your toilet." I felt a bit better after doing that!
  2. ...no; from their letter it says that they have withdrawn their Statutory Remand - from that I took it that they will withdraw it from the court too. Is this not the case? Should I still apply to the court for it to be set aside? Cheers
  3. Well after my good lasy wife received a SD from Connaught's for a 1st Credit debt last about 10 days ago I checked out the advice here and posted to confirm what I should do. I sent off the CCA early last week and today we received a letter back from them apologising about the SD, saying it was an error, that they have withdrawn the SD and sent the credit file back to 1st Credit. Hell, they even sent back the £1 postal order! Now that's a result for the little man! Big thank you to this forum and the great advice given!
  4. Great - I'll do the necessary first thing Monday and update accordingly. Thanks again!
  5. Thanks for the help thus far! We aren't sure how the SD arrived as it was sent to my wife's parents - we moved 18 months ago and she hasn't updated our address with some of her creditors. The in-laws say the letter was just put through the letter box so it doesn't appear to have been hand delivered. There is a label on the front of the envelope where stamps or a postmark would normally be from UKMail, express parcels & mail - no indication of 1st/ 2nd class etc. Maybe this is a new tactic, using a courier?
  6. Thanks - the debt is my wife's - it was a credit card in her name only; the bankruptcy was for me alone - we don't have any joint debts or loans etc.
  7. Hi all, Great forum. Some excellent advice here. My wife is in a bit of a financial pickle and this morning, we received a SD from 1st Credit/ Connaught for a credit card debt of £1591.76. I have been off work with severe depression for a while (originally partly brought about through financial stresses and being constantly harrassed by the like of Abbey - resulted in my Bankruptcy in 2006), my wife works, we rent a house but cash is really tight at the moment and things have slipped... Have searched through the forums for advice on what to do and after initially being scared *hitless by this letter, I've calmed down a bit and just wanted to confirm our next course of action: I should send a CCA request to 1st Credit and Connaught I should apply to my local court to have the debt set aside Is this correct, if so what are the definitive letters to use, as there seems to be numerous versions/ updates? Many thanks indeed. Any help gratefully received!!!
