  1. I have never said that PC World have been unfair, and haven't had a go at them in any way. Just want store credit over a new printer. If anybody reads this thread they will see how well PC World have treated me. I'm sure a bit of store credit isn't going to hurt PC World. j
  2. Ok, this is where I'm at. Got a replacement printer worth £20 more than the one I had, so had to pay the extra. I don't really need this printer in all honesty, so still want credit so I can get a cheaper printer and use the spare to get something I want. Going to ring PC World in Leeds, say "I have this printer, given as a gift, I don't need it can I exchange for store credit please sir?" I'm not going to open it, so all the security seals are still on it and is in totally spanking new condition. They can't say no to that can they?! What do you think my chances are of coming away happy? j
  3. My printer was £109.99, and struggled to find a printer for the same price. They said I could have one that's cheaper, but I wouldn't be reimbursed the difference, effectively loosing out on money. Which is why I want store credit. j
  4. Hi guys. I have been a part of a great laptop forum for the past 4 years run by a company called Rockdirect.com. They make high end gaming laptops, and one of the largest such companies in the UK. Unfortunately they have taken their forum offline, which we think was due to the high number of complaints they were receiving about their service. People were threating legal action etc and got quite messy. Without any warning they shut the forum down last Friday, angering many people who have supported Rock and help make the forum one of the best resources for Laptop advice, Rock and non-rock. The company used the forum as a big selling point for their laptops, and have surely befitted from the huge support many users gave it. We have set up a new forum, and just though I would post here in case anybody who has an order with Rock and was wondering what's happening decides to come here for advice. You can find us at (EDIT) It's just a temporary home for now, and if any new members wish to join, your more than welcome. Cheers, j
  5. They won't give me credit for some daft reason. Hoping that they will just give me a new receipt for the new printer with no telltale signs of an exchange, but they can be crafty buggers I think! Going to go for it and see what happens, at worst I will loose out on some of the value of my original printer. At best, I will have £100+ store credit, or a new non canon printer. Wish me luck! J
  6. I'm back. My PC World in Harrogate has nothing I want, and quite keen to get it sorted as don't want to miss out. I have a sneaky idea, and want to know your stance on this. If I get a replacement printer from the Harrogate store, then take said printer to a Leeds store and ask for store credit/ refund (which ever they offer) will I be able to do that? Seeing as the printer will be completely unopened and will be new, will I have any problems? I'm more than happy to get store credit, so I should be ok right? j
  7. Lol, why couldn't they just offer me store credit in the first place then we wouldn't be in this mess! j
  8. I might ring Trading Standards and see if I should be allowed to get store credit. As you say, not happy about just sitting on a faulty printer for PC World to change their minds and end up with me getting a bum deal. Quite happy to do business with PC World, and the printer was a gift so I'm not complaining. Store credit is fine, I just don't see why they wouldn't offer it. j
  9. Should PC be able to offer me store credit? What difference does that make to them whether I buy a £109 printer, or a £50 printer then something else for £59? They will still have all the money in the end? j
  10. Thanks for clearing that up for me. I would have been quite happy to take vouchers, but they wouldn't offer me them, I asked them, but wouldn't do it. jim
  11. Sorry guys, bit confused by the last two comments. Are you saying I should be able to get store credit if I wanted or a cash refund? Would be happy with store credit as could get a cheaper printer then get GTA IV Don't want to start demanding stuff I won't be able to get and then look like a fool. Thanks for your advice, Jim
  12. Yeah, using the cartridges that the printer came with, so genuine canon. Had hardly used it to be honest also. Just decided to stop working one day. Been reading a bit about this model, and seems to be quite a common problem. j
  13. I COULD take something of lesser value, but I would loose out as they won't make up the difference with store credit or similar. So just going to sit it out and wait for something that costs £100-109 that I want. j
  14. Thanks for your replies guys. I went down to PC world, had the grumpiest guy ever serve me. But they said I could exchange the printer for one that is the same price or more and I pay the difference. Which is fine really, they had one that was advertised as £99.99, but was actually £69.99, and said I couldn't make up the difference with something else. So going to wait a couple of weeks and see if one that cost £129.99 comes down in price. Will let you know if I have any problems with round two! Cheers, James
  15. Hi, first post but lurked around and found this to be a great resource. Hope you can help with this. I bought a Canon printer about 5 months ago, and about a month ago it started failing. Keeps not recognizing the cartridges, it will be random cartridges, so must be the printer and not the individual cartridges. I have done a bit of reading about this problem in the internet, and seems like a problem in general with this generation on Canon printers. The printer was bought for £109.99. I'm going to see if I can get another brand, as not too keen on getting another Canon, but realise I may have to. My question is, am I able to exchange my broken printer for a printer worth £109.99, or will I have to exchange for a printer that is worth what mine is selling for now? Or will they just say we can only offer an exact replacement? Hope my question makes sense, and thanks in advance for any help. James
