  1. Not sure if I’m in the right forum, but I’m hoping someone will be able to help or point me in the right direct. Back in 2007 I received a letter from Moorcroft Debt Collectors which said that they were acting on behalf of Littlewoods and seeking a debt of £172. I immediately contacted Littlewoods as I’ve never held an account with them and was told that in 2005 an account was opened in my name and DOB. I was told that if I provided proof that I lived at a different address at the time the account was created and the goods purchased, they would buy the debt back from Moorcroft and close the account. I did this and my documentation was accepted by Littlewoods and I heard no more from Littlewoods or Moorcroft. About 2 months later I received a letter from Capquest saying that they were acting on behalf of Littlewoods and seeking the £172. I contacted Littlewoods who told me that the matter had been resolved and they had never instructed Capquest at all. The advisor I spoke to was quite helpful and told me that Moorcroft had probably sold the debt onto Capquest once they realised they couldn’t claim the money. Although they told me there was nothing that they could do as they weren’t the ones who had sold the debt, they sent me a letter stating I wasn’t responsible for the debt and the case was resolved, advising that I forwarded this onto Capquest. I did this and also sent a CCA request and received a letter from Capquest saying the account was on hold while they requested the documents from Littlewoods. I heard nothing from them and stupidly assumed the matter was closed. I’ve recently applied for a mortgage and was denied due to my credit report not meeting the lenders criteria. I requested a copy of my credit report from Equifax and was shocked to find a default in my name from Capquest under my current address, which was marked down as 2005 and updated in 2008! There was also a default under my current address from Moorcroft which was marked in 2005 and then resolved the following month. I’ve contacted Equifax who have requested documentation from both companies, but it can take up to 28 days! I don’t understand how they can put defaults under my current address in 2005 when the account was never registered at that address. I didn’t even live at my current address in 2005! Also there is nothing from Littlewoods on my credit report so why have Capquest and Moorcroft put defaults against my name? Also the address where the accounts were set up has been linked to my name because of a search Moorcroft and Capquest did back in 2007, is it possible to get rid of this? It makes me so angry that I’ve lost a mortgage because of these defaults!! Is there anything I can do in the meantime???? It seems so wrong these debt collectors have put defaults down in my name when Littlewoods themselves say I wasn’t responsible. I appreciate any help you can give me! Thanks!
  2. Thanks for your help! Will get onto this right away! It helps to know that i'm not alone. My only question is where did they get my details from? As it was always Moorcroft who I previously dealt, then all of a sudden Capquest get involved! I appreciate your advice, hopefully i'll get some answers soon.
  3. About a year ago i received a letter from a debt collectors agency saying that thay had been instructed by Littlewoods to collect a debt i had of £172. This came a a complete shock to me as i have never had a Littlewoods account, i called them up and explained this to them and was told that someone using my name and date of birth had created an account and had goods post to them which were never paid for. I explained that i had never heard of the address where the goods were sent and was told if i faxed proof that i lived elsewhere during the time the account was set up and goods delivered they would take me off there system. I did this and also contacted the police who told me that the crime was against Littlewoods and not myself and that they would need to contact them? I called Littlewoods and had confirmation that they had received and accepted my documents. About 3 months ago i received a letter from Moorcroft debt collectors telling me that they were instructed by Littlewoods to recover the debt!!! I imediately called Littlewoods and was told that they had never received these documents! This time I posted the documents via special delivery and also to the debt collectors as they had started to harass me about it. I called up Littlewoods again and was told that they had received my documents and acepted them and they because they had sold the account on they would need to buy it back which could take upto 3 weeks. I contacted Littlewoods again and was told that they had successfully brought the account back and were clearing it from my name. However i then received a letter from Capquest saying that they had been sold the account and that if i didn't pay the debt in 7 days that would be taking legal action. I callled Littlewoods who told me this this couldn't be the case as they now owned the account and that they would write to Capquest. Now again i jhave received a letter from Capquest saying they are getting a court order to get baillifs on to me!! I called them up and they are staying that they still own the account and that Littlewoods haven't been in contact with them! I really don't know what to do as it feels like i am going in circles! As everytime i contact Littlewoods they tell me they own the account not Capquest and that they have indeed contacted them and when i call Capquest they deny this! I have received a letter from Littlewoods saying that they now own the account and that i was not responsible for it and having document my calls to them and who i spoke to. What should i do as this is really stressing me out!
