In september of last year there was an incident in which the Electricty cable to my house was severed whilst I was grinding out a tree stump. Now 10 months later I have recieved a claim from EDF energy for £1,700 regarding the emergancy works to fix the cable. At no point during the works was I told of any charges. I am unsure of my ability to dispute this claim. There is of course the time that they have taken to make the claim. The levels of the claim seem excesive, a lot of time was spent by the jointing team waiting for the ground works team to arrive 2 people for 9 hours some at time & half some double. Plus 4 hours rest time ??? The ground works are just given as a lump sum £787 with no details. Is it usual for an Electricity company to pursue a claim in such a manner? How liable am I for there process and inefficiency, ie time taken to route staff from other areas as none were available.. ( I live in north London so not exactly the middle of no where) Also the cable itself was only buried about 6inches down... ok this is on my property but surely the electiricty company put it there in the first place in a dangerous manner. (ok a long time ago) Sorry for the ramble but the £1700 has upset me somewhat.
