I have just won a squabble with Egg that began five years ago. They have now not only apologised and wiped of a £1,000 disputed 'debt' but they have now on my behalf, paid substantial compensation to my nominated charity and in return I have promised to remove them from my website. The way to deal with these people especially their 'CLARITY DEBT COLLECTORS' (bully boys indeed - but not really impressive) is to get the personal email address of the Chief Executive of both the lender and the debt collecting firm. Then politely write and tell them how they are breaking every rule in the book with their tactics - and are risking their Consumer Credit Licences. OFT guidlines now prevent debt collectors from their standard tactics eg if there is a dispute - or the lender has been informed that the debt is not going to be paid (for any reason) they cannot chase it, other than via a court. Under such circumstances, knocking on a door, or even the threat of 'we are coming to face you' is illegal.
