In 2012, unfortunately, my boiler was “diagnosed” by British Gas as condemned, and after replacing it, British Gas let me know that their call centre had made a mistake. Interestingly enough, I’d just taken out an insurance policy with them, which included my boiler. Even more interestingly, my first service mentioned nothing about my boiler being condemned. In fact, it only found two issues, which were easily solvable, and for a significantly smaller amount of money. So what, I hear you ask. Well, after condemning my boiler (just after I took out insurance), they also condemned my electrics (covered in the same insurance policy). They condemned my electrics, after investigating a blown fuse, by telling my tenants that if they touched anything, they would be electrocuted. A nice message to deliver, when there are small children in the house. More interesting than all of that, is that a few weeks prior, I was living in the house, with a working boiler, and working electrics. No shocks, no electrocution, no lack of heating… all of it… working. Doesn’t it seem odd – they’ve just insured my boiler and electrics, and now they’re telling me to replace both, at my own cost of course. Seems awfully convenient from where I’m standing! Their excuse for the boiler – the plumber that replaced it should have known better, and should have gone against what British Gas had said. They’ve deftly avoided the electrics issue.
After a year of battling with British Gas, receiving little understanding, empathy, or in fact any sincere acceptance of responsibility on their part, I’ve exhausted negotiations. I am no longer able to discuss, on a reasonable level, how appalling their service is, how badly they treat customers, and how their actions have expensive consequences, which I have had to pay for. They have now reverted to illogical, absurd explanations and given that I’ve spent a year fighting with them, I have no energy left to try and decipher their condescending, patronizing, and arrogant posturing. I spent £1650 because of their mistake, and the original compensation offered was a meager £30. That’s what I’m worth to them. The phone calls I’ve made cost more than that. I’m now up to a whopping £180 after the year of explaining and fighting.
British Gas should be avoided at all costs!
Sounds like some experience... I'm confused about 'the call centre made a mistake'. Call centre staff aren't technically trained. What mistake did they make.
If you have independent reports, create a small claim against British gas. That will get there undivided attention -
Hi
OFT uses power to suspend a credit licence for the first time, well, they have to start somewhere I suppose.
Interesting though, mmm, might turn out to be very interesting
Lets wait and see!

OFT suspended a Payday loan firms license last year, and also revoked Yes Loans

if you have not opted out from a lender for marketing and you they passed your details on, they have done nothing wrong.
However i had an issue with GB finance, who run various sites, and their MD came on here.
i tracked him online through whois, and spoke to him....
the guy got me off all his lists so i was happy!

ihateyes,
Thanks for sounding in.
I think we could really use some more detail. If a customer has homecare cover, and an insurer is called out. They'll often recommend a Powerflush as being neccessary. They say that without the powerflush, we will repair the system, but not continue to cover. They then say it's only our powerflush we'll accept (to continue the cover).
Please share more detail, about what you have said.
Again - thanks.
OK well have a look at the t&c's
http://www.britishgas.co.uk/pdf/HomeCare%20Range%20Terms%20and%20Conditions.pdf
In here it states BGas wont cover 3rd party damage....
if you search the t&c's you will notice nowhere in it does it state the Powerflush muct be carried out by Bgas.
The engr might be on commission so will want you to buy from him, rather than another company.
-
BG will cover if done by another company, but wont fix any damage they might cause... ie hole in rad.
You need to challenge the engineer... backed up with the t&c's

I recently brought a new [to me] car, and as you don’t know a car until you’ve had it for a while I took out an AA membership – which I did via Quidco so it worked out about half price.
Anyway the kind people at the AA gave me a ‘free’ 6 months trial for their Home Emergency Response – and whilst I’d never take out such cover under my own choice I thought it was a cleaver way of pushing a product.
Which brings me to yesterday we got up in the morning and noticed the toilet was blocked, also when we ran the tap in the basin the toilet filled up and when we filled used the shower the water takes ages to run away.
So we went to Wickes brought a plunger & a toilet rod and had a go at removing the blockage…long story short we couldn’t fix it…then I remembered the AA, I checked the T&Cs and it stated that if it’s the only WC then they consider it an emergency.
I called them at 8.40 last night and I explained that we’d had a go at the usual things and this was more serve than a simple plunger job. The popped me on hold for a few mins and said they would attend between 8am – 12pm today…not exactly an emergency response when its 12-15 hours after the call but I accepted this as it was cheaper than calling a plumber our of hours.
12pm came and went no one in our house has been able to shower or use the toilet for over 24 hours now so I’m getting twitchy, add this to the fact I’ve had to take the morning off at zero notice and I decide to call them – they said the guys on his way and to wait another 20 mins – I waited 40 and her turned up.
He comes in and looks at the toilet full to its brim and I can see his discomfort – he said “I know this isn’t what you want to hear but I’m actually an electrician” – amazing, I wasn’t even angry it was too funny!
So bless him he got a plunger and had a go any way – he spilled poo everywhere and made it worse – admitting defeat he cleaned up and called the office.
They’ve just called me back within 5 mins of him leaving and they’re going to subcontract this out. I’m not waiting for them to call me back with a time but no word if it will be today or not – It’s really unacceptable!
I don’t expect an solution here just wanted to sound off :S
You should ask the AA £40....
If YOUR not at home in the alotted time slot and they call they may charge an attendance fee of £40.
They never attended your property in the alloted lot. chance your arm

Rubbish for the money paid.
-
also you should read their terms and conditions, hidden on the 2nd last page under Our Repair standards:
Repairs are USUALLY TEMPORARY to alleviate the emergency. We MAY however carry out a permanent repair if at similar cost.
Comprehensive or not, they dont guarantee much.
-
whats the make of tele. remember if Baird this is B'houses own brand. you dont need their silly insurance as 1st yrs guarantee would cover this.
-
it sounds reasonable although I believe they might "have" to freeze interest rates if you are in difficulty. I dont think I would put up a fight if it's reasonable in what you are repaying to what you should have repaid.
CAB would advise the company doesnt have to freeze interest, but ost companies do.

Hi, like many others I have had to use the services of a Payday loan company to help with my finances. I used Minicredit for a small loan of £100. I rolled over the loan for the first month hoping to pay it all off the following. Unfortunately this was not possible so I applied to roll over again and was refused. I phoned to ask why and they said it was due to my credit file. Having recently checked my credit file there were no changes since taking out the initial loan. They were having none of this and demanded the full balance of £134, I offered to pay that months interest of £47 to which they accepted but even with that payment they would not roll over the loan, they still wanted the outstanding balance. I asked them kindly if they would reconsider but was told no.
Ask them to validate the 'alleged' deb. -
Re: Account/Credit Card/Reference Number:
Dear Mr xxxx
I would be happy to settle any financial obligation I might lawfully owe, as soon as I have received the following documentation from you:
1. Validation of the debt (the actual accounting);
2. Verification of your claim against me (a sworn affidavit or a hand signed invoice in accordance with Bills of Exchange Act (1882) );
3. A copy of the contract signed by both parties and therefore binding both parties.
ps.. these racked up 12 grand in damages to me coz they harrassed me for a debt that they could not prove i owed..now the 800 got discharged last week, and now they owe me and im not gonna stop until they pay up within 7 days , i dont care what i need to do, to make them pay ...they got more to lose than i do im in exactly the same situation as you, if u want advice about these sharks just message me, id be quite happy to help.
Minicredit are a [problem].
ive heard this before, wherey they refuse a rollover, but if you pay, the loan and reapply you get your loan.....
SO WHY?
Well cos they are going to sting you £19.50 to send the loan to your bank account. and not their is no option on their site not to have this faster payment.

Hi
can anyone advise me how, where, to whom I complain regarding my on-going problem with British Gas.
BG installed new boiler last year June 2011. Since then I had to call their engineers on several occasion as pressure on the system was dropping every few weeks. I was assured that system will settle in time and there will be no problem.
Now central heating is not working and engineer this time had recommended power flush system and will cost £850/
When new boiler was fitted is it not required by BG to power flush system before they install new boiler? My system was only chemical cleaned as that time I did not know different between chemical clean and power flush. Now they want me to give them £850/ to do thing they should have done in the beginning.
Thanks
MCK
I believe BG will push a P/flush on a gas boiler sale. but the customer may decide against it.
-
surely he wouldnt get a license. that would defeat the purpose of them suspending MCO.
-
im sure they will with the charges, but thats when you dispute, and barter with them.
-
speed credit wont do much know but closer to the 28days they might try and raid. this is where people need to instantly complain to the OFT and make them aware
-
-
Thinking on it toothfairy has two trading license' with MCO and another company so they might survive this one. All the same a good result:) Also assuming this goes through and they fail the appeal, where will that leave the customer? Is the debt still owed?
debt will still be owed. they will sell to another company who should be easier to deal with
-
Do we all just sit back to wait and see what happens within the 28 days now? speed credit tried to take 2 amounts from my bank last night and i recieved an email from speed credit collections saying it had been declined so obviously my debt was still owned by speed credit.
Even though Speed Credit has been closed down, they will sell the debt to another company.
-
Can anyone else confirm that they are linked to Speedcredit and Toothfairy? I don't understand how they could be related to them. It would be big news on here if those two were to be closed down.
ok go to speedcredit.co.ukfill your name, email address, and mobile number, click apply. it will now take you to the application screen.the wee orange at the bottom right hand side has TFF 2008-2012 copyright.when in the application screen look at the web address: https://www.toothfairyfinance.com/secure/loanmailer.php?step=2is that proof enough?
-
also known as Speedcredit
Ya dancer..... i assume Toothfairy is gone as well. though looking at Speedcredit their site is still up and running.
-
MEM arent speedcredit! speedcredit is Toothfairy, just like nextcreditandwhoever MCO is they have had their license revoked and fined over 500k
