  1. Thanks CAG. I ended up phoning SLC last night and spoke with their 'legal dept' Have been told that loan was paid off in July 07 and the remainder of the debt is a court charge, various lawyer charges and some interest which totals about £400. The last contact they had with me was on/around July 2000. Now that is more than 6 years ago so should this debt not be statue barred? If so why are slc chasing me? I did state during call that i admitted no debt with slc but eventually i took bank details to perhaps transfer the cash. I cant understand how they can chase if the debt is over 6 years old? The charges they say, are what the courts/lawyers charge them. They also said there was on open decree (a scottish ccj so i was told) against me since 2000. this lasts for 6 years and they say it has dropped off but i have checked my credit file over the last 6 years and never seen this decree???? I have also had other credit over the last 6 years. Am not quite sure what is going on but do i have to pay them as the 6 years is up? Any help woould be good - slc says they will hold off the debt collectors for 2 weeks.
  2. I took out a student or two loan back in around 1991-1994. As far as I was concerned it was paid off in full back in around 1995. I got a letter today from a company called 'ati' stating I owe £405.44????? I have no idea what this is all about and not sure if I should phone them to find out? Can anyone help me??? I do remeber something about some charges on my account that amounted to about £60 which i never paid as i didnt know what they were for and therefore didn't reagrd them as justified.
  3. But how does that leave the debt? Could they still try to claim it? Could someone else try to claim it? Should I offer a negligible settlement fee? I dont want this reappearing 6 months down the lne I just want rid!
  4. OK - to recap - thought this debt was statute barred (over 6 years old), I have not heard sight nor sound of it for ages and it doesnt appear to be on my credit file. Ruthbridge came out of the blue and demanded full payment. Asked them for a CCA and have not heard from them since. The 31 day period ended yesterday. What do i do now?
  5. Ok DCA delivered 25/4 add on 12 days = 12/5 add one day for Bank Holiday = 14/5. I've not heard a squeek out of them - should I now just wait for the 30 day deadline (14/6) or should I send them something as a reminder?
  6. From reading the posts on hear some DCA's just seem to want to be a law to themselves - perhaps if they did things properly and with ethics they would have more success.
  7. My letter was deliverd on 25/4 - a letter came out from ruthbridge with a postmark 26/4 asking me to call their debt counselling dept asking to phone to get some 'help'! I obviously have not called them. However, they have my CCA and they still sent me a letter requesting i contact them - how should i react to this?
  8. Thanks for that - will start the process today and see where i get. thanks for everyones help on this - really appreciated. Will let you know how i get on!
  9. Sorry about that! Will go off and post then try to get on with life for a couple of weeks!
  10. You obviousl don't have much faith in Royal Mail Curly bean - 1 week to deliver a letter!
  11. Ok so critical dates should they get my letter on 26th April are 14th May and 14th June!
  12. does the clock start ticking the day they get the letter - eg if they get it on 26th April is that day 1?
  13. Just as a note their letter of yesterday stated that they 'are no longer willing to correspond with me regarding this matter' and that 'bankruptcy proceedings are due to commence'. I presume I just ignore that and request the CCA?
  14. 12 working days from today would be 10th May and 1 calander month further would be 10th June. Agreed?
  15. thanks v much - will do this tomorrow and get back you after 12 days! 24/4 + 12 days = 6/5 which is a sunday! is it 12 days or 12 working days?
  16. ok so if i don't get anything from them could someone else come along and try to enforce the debt?
  17. ok to be clear I send the above letter recorded and wait for 12 days - do i follow up with another letter after 12 days if i get no response? Then i wait a further month. Do i follow up with a further letter at that stage? At what stage can i be sure that this debt is 'dead'?
  18. Thanks again - and if they do provide the above - what do i do then???
  19. Thanks but will this not mean that I am admitting the debt? How wouldit efect the 6 year rule?
  20. Does rameses work for a debt collection company by any chance?
  21. I have received a few letters from ruthbridge since i moved into my new house. I am pretty sure they relate to an old credit card debt that was passed to cabot and then passed again (it would appear!)to Ruthbridge. The latest letter states that if i do not pay up by 30/4/07 they will make me bankrupt. They also stated that they would accpet a reduction in the debt to pay it off circa £3,500 instead of circa £4,500. They also state that if i don't accpet this settlement the bankrupcy amount will have 47 months int added. Again if i do pay it off they will add the word 'setteld' to my credit report. Nice! I have read about Ruthbridge on here an appreciate that they may well be testing me - I am not about to pay up but have to admit to beginning to get a little anxious which I am sure is what they are trying to do. This debt is old but I cannot be sure that its more than 6 years old. I do remember speaking to the CCCS about various debt about 6 years ago and can't remember if this was included. I set up a minimal payment agreement for other debt (and maybe this one) - all the others are paid up. This would be the only one outstanding. I have my credit report and there is no mention of this debt on it. NO CCJ's of any description. I am not sure what to do. I i write to them stating that the debt is over 6 years old (statute barred i think the phrase is) then do i just start the 6 year thing again? Was going to go and speak to a solicitor but thought i would see if i get any luck on here so if anyone has any advice then I would be very grateful if they would pas it on. Many thanks LB
