I have a finance for a college course I started just over a year ago and my direct debit got cancelled due to them not setting up a proper mandate.... so ive been paying by debit card and been overdue all the time by a few days, due to paying by card. payed yet again on the day saturday the 14th when my bill was due and the guy on the phone said it all went though. the following thursday I got a letter through post with yet another 22.50 charge for been overdue. I rang them up and they said its because it takes 3 days for a debit card transaction to clear, so they charged me again...even though they knew I payed it on that date. I've now got nearly £300 worth of fines because of this and I want to do something about it. Can i claim by them been unlawful? and the fact its there fault my direct debit got canceled or is it too late to act? Is it different from claiming from a bank?
