I need some help. I wrote to Capital One asking for a refund of my PPI which I've been paying since 2000. They responded by saying they found no evidence of this policy being mis-sold. They believe I had sufficient information to make an informed decision to purchase PPI. The reasons being that Optional PPI was applied to my account because I chose to purchase it when I completed a postal application fir them on November 18th 2000. There was no involvement of a Capital One rep and it was only added as I ticked the box marked Yes. If I had left it blank they would not have applied it. Now, I feel I have had it miss old. there was no one to explain it to me, and I was under the impression that if I didn't tick yes I wouldn't be accepted, I had a poor credit rating at the time and was pretty desperate. I didn't know the full extent of what I was getting myself in to and there was no one to explain otherwise. I also was unaware that this would be applied again and again year in and year out without an option to remind me, or to quit (which I would have done) - I was oblivious to the charges in a way and I was only reminded because they now gave me the opportunity to opt out (I think after law changes which forced Banks and lenders to keep their customers more informed with more transparency). I wanted to ask whether it' worth continuing this to the Ombudsman and whether anyone else has had similar experiences and any advice hints or tips as to claim this PPI? Any help advice, pointers or instructions would be most appreciated.
