  1. Hi There Comet Are Arseholes. I Contacted Philips Dirctly And Threaten To Sue Them. I Got The Tv Checked Out At My Local Repairs Shop And It Was The Power Unit Which Ws Bust. Philips Agreed To Send Out The Part For Free. I Ended Up Just Having To Pay For The Costs Of The Repair. I Agree There Must Be More Comet Should Do But Until Now I Don't Know Of Anyone Who Has Got The Bottle To Pursue Them To The Small Claims Court. Go For It Issaq
  2. nik thanks for your posting. i actually tried to pursue comet but kept hitting a wall. i ended up having a local repairs company look at the LCD TV who advised me that the power circuit board had broken. They estimated the part at around £200. i then wrote to philips directly and after a few threats got them to supply the part for free. the repair cost me around £80. i really wanted to pursue comet but they kept saying that their engineer had to come out and look at the tv (for a charge of £30). however i had already found out what the problem was, but they refused to accept this. when philips said they would supply the free parts i stopped writting to comet. although i would have liked to have taken them to small claims court as their a bunch of cowboys.
  3. hi there thanks for replying to my email. the tv was bought for staff use but sits in a comminual area where patients can see it but don't have access to it. I don't think this affects my terms and conditions.
  4. Dear all please see my original post - Broken philips lcd tv after 18 months. I have contacted comet again who fobbed me off to contact philips who say that they will only pay anything over £400 (meaning i have to fork out the first £400). I have drafted a letter to comet and would be grateful for some constructive comments. It sounds a bit cheeky and arogant but I am really annoyed that this has happened and keeps happening to the general public and companies like comet keep getting away with it Dear Sir Further to my recent conversation with your colleagues I am now writing to inform you that I will be raising an action against your company with regards to the above item which I purchase on the 3rd September 2005. The LCD television was bought with the help of some money donated by our patients. As its purpose was solely for patient use whilst waiting to be seen by their doctor or nurse. Up until Saturday the 24th February it worked well but on Saturday I went to switch it on and it did not come on at all and hasn’t done since. I went through the basic checks with the plug and socket but was unable to find an explanation for why it has stopped working. I contacted your company on Monday of this week and was advised that there was nothing Comet could do as the machine was out of warranty. I was advised to contact Philips. I have subsequently contacted my solicitor and the consumers group for advice. Both advise that I should raise an action for reimbursement of costs to repair the television which is what I plan to do. Can you forward the contact details of the most appropriate person who I should write to. As a matter of interest I have posted this letter on the LCD TV in the patient reception area for all of our patients to see as naturally they deserve an explanation also as to why such an expensive television which is only 18 months old should breakdown. This will remain posted until I have received a satisfactory response from you. I am giving you 14 days to respond to this letter. If I don’t hear from you I will proceed with small claims action without further notice. I look forward to hearing from you.
  5. hi there i am in a similar position with a philips lcd tv which is 18 months old and stopped working. i like you contacted comet and was fobbed off with the same offer. I would be interested in finding out how you got on. I was told be head office to contact the manufacturer as it had nothing to do with Comet
  6. Dear all thank you for taking the time to read my post. I bought the above TV approximately 18 months ago. The TV has worked well but yesterday it would not switch on at all and hasn't done since. I have checked the plug and socket and even replaced the power wire but the TV still won't switch on. I have discussed this with Comet Electricals who advise that it will cost around £70 just to have someone come out and look at the machine because it is not under warranty. The guy I spoke to was sympathetic and advised me to contact philips but there was nothing else comet could do. I have not contacted philips yet but I was hoping for advice as to whether there is anything I can do about this. The TV is not in warranty and I didn't extend the warranty at the time as it was extremely expensive. Should a LCD tv which to me is fairly new breakdown like this and what can one do about it other than fork out hundreds to try and get it repaired. I would appreciate your response and advice. thanks
