Last time I was this relieved was when Ashley Young got the winner for the Villa at Goodison last year.

Must say have found this thread THE most useful source of information. Took some finding but bloody glad there was somewhere you could get useful info because the dvla are like the secret police.

    Congrats mate. Drive carefully!

    Well done!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. hello liverpool-paul you were spot on mate recieved my driving licence threw the post this morning, cant drive til the 19th july but what the hell i got it back just liked to say thanks for all your advice cheers mate.

Well done!!!!!!!!!!!!Really pleased for you m8.You obviously done everything right leading up to your medical, like obstaining from drinking for a good few months the same as what i did..Some people still cant get their head around that if you use to drink quite a lot then you have to obstain from it for a good few months before your medical( i did 5 months)..We it seems are the brighter ones..

Happy driving in july m8..Drive safe and enjoy, it will be like passing your driving test all over again!!:D:D:D

  4. same brum no 1 i phoned yesterday i got exactly the same they told me they recieved the results 0n the 29th of may but wouldnt say anything else apart from when they have a look at them i will hear by post keep you in limbo or what 3 weeks now and nothing:confused:

Wait about ten to fifteen working days m8..try not to worry:)

  5. It's about 3 weeks. That's what the doc told me at my medical and fortunately just over 3 weeks later my licence got sent through the post.

On a side note, do you get any results from the medical (pass or fail) or do they just send out your licence?

Hi over rover m8..they just send your license through the post mate..I had mine back after only ten days of my medical:)

  6. cheers liverpool-paul so what if you get a tug by the old bill do they send you a letter or something to cover you til its processed

i cannot remember if they send you out a letter or not m8 to be honest, with how long ago it was for me and all the rigmorale that i went through i cant honestly remember..but i got all my insuranse done and everything, until they told me that i had failed..dont worry about the old bill m8..if you get pulled then your license is going through the re-apply process..nothing to worry about, and you can 100% DRIVE WHILE WAITING FOR YOUR DECISION>>:)

  7. DVLA only renewed my license for a year and then I had to go for another medical which they paid for.

When I failed my gamma was 300. Massive.

Are you sure your not called FRANK CALLAGHER linda..lol..:D

  8. same they give you a load of bull on the phone but take your money quick enough,im going to ring again tomorrow see if they can put me out of my misery, they did say to me that if i dont hear by the time my ban is up i would be covered to drive from that date, yer right i aint driving til my licence is in my hand, will keep you informed

Hi jay..you are allowed to drive when your ban is up, even if your license has not come through the post, because the dvla are processing it..I know they are arse holes, but they are right on this one m8..I had the same a year ago when they were still processing mine..:)

  9. thanks liverpool-paul i have been reading your story it seems you have been threw the mill to get yours back, you say you got your licence back in ten days see my ban isnt up til july the 20th would they send it early

To my knowledge mate, i would say that they would send it out to you, but they will specify that your ban remains in place until that date..:)

  10. hello mate did you declare that you take milk thistle and can they trace it,i have been taking the same stuff i have my medical on tuesday but wasnt sure if they can trace it or not

HI Jay..Stop worrying mate, by the sounds of it you have done all the right things by preparing for your medical after stopping drinking for as long as you have and by taking the milk thistle..I stopped for 5 months and took milk thistle on about 3 months of that..On the milk thistle thing, keep taking it up until the day before your medical, and i would not declare it, as i didnt..All it is, is a health supplement, and thats it..Just the same as taking a vitamin tablet everyday etc..

I think we all have this conception, including myself, that the dvla medical being as they are would look upon taking this AS HAVING SOME SOUGHT OF DRINKING PROBLEM, where as we know in ourselves that we have taken it just to make sure that any slight damage done to the liver through alcohol can be recovered and put the limits with which they test for in the correct ranges..Hope this settles you down a bit..Am sure you will pass with no problems at all, and expect your license through the post within 10 days of your medical..Happy driving :)

  11. Thanks, am on milk thistle having read the thread previously. Have had my blood tested twice but no mention of AST even tho I have asked.

This whole process is nerve wracking.Medical is in 2 weeks and my job, house are hanging in the balance.

Never want to be here again so as a deterrent you got to give it to them.

    If only the masses knew.:-o

im sure you will be fine m8

  12. Am in a similar situation to most of the posters on here and I guess I am seeking some peace of mind as my quack and the dvla dont appear to be entirely sure.

I have not touched a drop since my ban and dont miss it at all. Did not think I would have any problems until the doc told me I had raised lft function.

My ggt is 17, mcv 91 which are both ok but my alt is 49. Is this one high reading enough to fail me? Any informed genuine advice much appreciated.

Hi brum no 1..This 1 reading will not fail you if the other 3 readings which the dvla test for are within their recommended limits..You are allowed to fail 1 out of the 4..Levels are as below..

GAMMA GT UPPER REF RANGE 50

ASPARTATE TRANSAMINISE (AST) UPPER REF RANGE 40

    MCV UPPER REF RANGE 98

    ALT UPPER REF RANGE 40

    BLOOD ALCOHOL (if assayed) mg/100ml..

These are the levels that the dvla sent to me when i first failed my medical with my figures next to them to say why i had failed..

I have been told by the dvla myself that these figures can fluctuate from medical lab to medical lab when the blood sample is analysed..But i cant see them changing by that much to be honest..

Hope this helps..p.s get some pure milk thistle tablets which will clear out your liver and reduce your figures..

  13. thanks poppy nurse..i had aready been told about different results from labs, but did not Know anything about the ast test, as could not find any information...

  14. not sure how long it takes for dvla to sort out results...Mr loggy-z will be the first 1 out of the 3 of us to find out..i/ul just means the figures in which your blood results should be within..u/l stands for upper level...

also if you are past your date that your ban ended on, then you can drive while your application is being processed, as long as it hasen't been revoked by failing a previous dvla medical like i did..

  15. hi yogster..

these are the figures and what they test for as when i had my medical 6 months ago..hope yours are ok..you are allowed to be out of range with only 1 of the certain ranges that they test ..

gamma gt upper reference range 50

    mcv upper reference range 98

    ast upper reference range 40

    alt upper reference range 40

although my doctor says that their is no such tect result as an ast anymore, and after looking on the internet i cannot find out anything about it either..

let me know where you are at out of interest please mate..

  16. hi yogster..

to be honest mate, i'm not sure if they contact your doctor or not, if blood results are ok..

i think that they have contacted mine before my next medical because i failed my original medical 6 months ago by quite a high margin..

  17. hi loggy z..my medical is on the 18th of march..i think it takes 2 to 3 weeks if i remembering correctly to when you will find out, if you have passed it or not..yes i do have to pay again unfortuneatly..hope all goes well with yours mate, fingers crossed for both of us..keep in touch mate..

    paul

  18. hi mate..if your levels are over what they should be after your medical, then a letter will be sent to your doctor, if not then they will pass your medical straight away..i am still awaiting to see if i have to go for a medical or not( which i probably will have) after my doctor has filled out a questionaire for me from the dvla..if you have stopped drinking for a substantial amount of time then i can see no problems of you passing it..

    regards paul

once again the dvla are absolute ******S, after finding out today that i have to go for another medical !!!!!!!

  19. hi loggy-z...the dvla will send out a questionare to your doctor about any medical drinking habits..ie if you have undergone detox or anything like that...

you will have to fill out a questionare yourself when you go for a medical, and from what i can remember their is no trick questions at all, just simple yes or no's, and when was your last drink, and maybe what did your drinking habbits used to be like... if you haven't been drinking since august then you should pass with flying colours..

    hope this helps

    regards paul.

  20. Can anyone give me any advice. I was caught drink driving and banned for 16 months. I know what i did was stupid and would never do anything like this again. I stupidly refused to give a specimen so was classed as a high risk driver and consequently had to have a dvla medical.

I gave up drinking for 2 weeks but failed my medical due to high liver function levels. My doctor was contacted and he confirmed I do not have any problems with alcohol. I was stunned when the dvla said I could not apply for another 6 months.

I am due to reapply in February 2009. I have not drunk any alcohol for over 3 months now and have had 3 blood tests through my doctor. Although my liver function tests have improved and my gamma gt came down to 87, (the NHS levels are 10-70), my alt came down to 45 (NHS levels 10-50) my GP says my liver function is normal and to reapply. The DVLA set upper limit of 50 for Gamma gt and 40 for ALT. I decided to wait a further month but my levels have increased slightly for no reason. I have tried talking to the DVLA re their levels but they say they set there own limits. Incidently I do take omeprazole every day for reflux and advisory leaflet says this can alter liver function.

    Has anyone any advice?
