I know this is a bit late but just seen it -- I am currently in the same situation and had it explained by my local benefits office - It is what they call a 'quality check' - there should have been a 'home visit' to check all details they held about your friend - his replies are then checked against that held by them ---- they say names are picked at random - but the bottom line is that your friend is/ was under investigation --- it happens to everybody!!!! usually nobody actually finds out it is happening.

You say you've never had a home visit before ---- you're lucky - since august I've been investigated by the Council - Inland Revenue - Working Tax Credits - Breavement Agency - JSA and others.
Sick to the back-teeth of it - and getting paranoid --- but at least I know that somebody is secure in their job!!!!!!!

Can someone advise me - I thought it was a requirement that a home visit from any of the benefit agencies had to be announce in advance - they could not just turn up at your door.

Just been throught the AIB process - Seq'd in May --- and its the best and easiest £100 I've ever spent. Don't delay - get it started NOW - CAB etc start the process straight away and all debt (except student loans) are gone - nobody questions how the debts occured -- no stigma involved. It's great not worrying about debts - being able to answer the phone and laugh at the threats these **** make -----
