Hi

Whilst working on a contract, my husband paid a months deposit (rec'd recepit) for a room in a house with the owner.

The 'agreement' was for 3 months and my husband left maybe a week or so prior to the 3 month period. Rent was paid on time and for the correct about.

No written agreement was signed.

Upon leaving - the landlord advised the deposit would be returned in the following week or two.

It has now been 10 weeks and the deposit has not been repaid. I've attempted to telephone him (mobile only) but haven't been able to get through. And has property is quite a way I'm not able to pop around to see him.

Would like to send a recorded delivery letter - but was wondering if there is a template letter I could use? As I'm not sure what's appropriate to insert into the letter initially.

Apart from letter is there anything else I should be doing at this stage?

Your advise is greately appreciated.

xx

I think a 10 week wait is quite long enough, depends how much he paid tho whether you wish to go down the small claims court route. You could write a letter and send special delivery giving the landlord 14 days to cough up or you will be raising a case in the small claims court or you could do MCOL.

We did this several years ago as the amount involved was around £700 and won the case.
