Hi to all,

I discovered the Forums whilst browsing DCA names; and wish to goodness that I had found it a year ago.

The useful advice and encouragement found here has given me new heart.

I appreciate that the legal proceedings in Scotland are vastly different but the helpful advice already discovered is no less valuable for that.

Like many here I have severe financial difficulties and whilst I do not intend to evade my responsibilities - it really makes me angrier and angrier that there are parasites and leeches gorging themselves on the troubles of others.

My experience to date with DCAs is that they consider themselves above the law and will do as they damn well please.

It is refreshing to find such a strong and motivated group and I am grateful that I have done so.

My genuine thanks to those selfless individuals who have posted advice and guidance.

I have much to learn but hope to be able to contribute positively to the Forums in the future

Many Thanks

Hi Dunvegan and welcome to CAG.

To get started I would have a look at this http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/welcome-consumer-forums/107001-how-do-i-dummies.html

Also when you are ready I would advise that you start a thread in the Debt Collection forum. There you will receive lots of help and while the legal systems are seperate a lot of the statute covering debt is exactly the same.

HAVE YOU BEEN TREATED UNFAIRLY BY CREDITORS OR DCA's?

BEWARE OF CLAIMS MANAGEMENT COMPANIES OFFERING TO WRITE OFF YOUR DEBTS.

Please note opinions given by rory32 are offered informally as a lay-person in good faith based on personal experience. For legal advice, you must always consult a registered and insured lawyer.

Hello Dunvegan and Welcome!

What you say about DCAs is totally correct, and you'll soon get some good general advice on here and suggestions for reclaiming unlawful charges.

I've been where you are and earnestly recommend you contact two highly experienced charities for an initial discussion. They are:

Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) - telephone 0800 138-1111

National Debtline 0808 808-4000

They are independent and totally free of charge.

At all cost avoid organizations with similar names that charge either an up front fee or a percentage of your repayments.

You'll come across frequent references to both the above charities on the forums. Personally, I use CCCS, but feel National Debtline has the better data sheets which you can download or receive by mail.

Good luck, and remember to keep us posted, for this site is like "The Three Musketeers" - one for all and all for one. You'll also find some humour here as well - mainly sardonic!

I have deleted your first of the two.

Presumably the second one contained the correction.:)
