Hey everybody,

I got an MOT carried out on my car and the guy said it is gonna cost between £300 and £400 to fix! (firstly I dont like the sound of the fact he aint sure how much its gonna cost)

Anyway I haggled my way down to £300 (cash) which is also dodgy.

When I go to pick up the car should I ask him to put it on the ramp to show me exactly what has been done because the stuff he was telling me he was gonna do sounded dodgy!

What other ways can I ensure the work has been done?

Any help please because I am going to pick it up tonight

firstly i would have taken the car somewhere else for a quote before letting this person loose on my car,

could you give some more information please

what did it fail on?

is the 300 pounds for cash including vat? will you get a reciept.

are you a member of the aa or rac

is the garage a member of any motoring organisations

I know but it would cost another £40 for another garage to test it again.

They are not part of any groups etc

Auto Trader Dealer Pages - Myre Motors

I honestly cant remember exactly what they said about what was wrong because I had never heard of it before.

They said £300 inclusive of vat so its all in £300.

Should I phone them to see exactly what was wrong with it before picking it up and post it on this?

Well, if after they repair your car, and a pass certificate is issued, isn't this what you wanted? If you suspect you got the bass in exchange for extra money, you can ask the agency to ensure the car passed legitimately.

Yes I do want the pass certificate but at the same time I did not want a bill of £300 for it so just wanted to see if there was a way of seeing that they definately carried out all this work!

Heck of a lot of money for ma wee peugeot 106 gti.

Ok just phoned them.. Its the anti roll bars that cost the money because I needed new ones

I have always had problems with garages so thought I would try this one.

Is there any way to check if they have been fitted

1) as someone has already said, get them to show you (or give you) the parts they've replaced. They're yours, afterall, unless the deal was 'exchange' (as some parts are)

2) get the mechanic to point to the new bits on your car

Worth joining a 106 GTI club / forum. ARBs might not be a 'usual' part to replace. Often (although I'm no expert on Pugs) its just the bushings that split and need replacing...
