stpats056.JPGTopic 1) I had a Newfoundland. All the muddy walks, the hair everywhere, the endless efforts in trying to train her... so greatly missed now, as she died at only 5 yrs old last year.

ahhh lovely photo. my rescue dog is our first - and i am surprised how much we all love him - could not have understood your sadness before - but now i do:( -part of the family - and thinks he is a lap dog - although far too big:D jan

we applied to dogs trust and blue cross to have a dog but were refused - but we got our lurcher/lab cross from a couple who were emigrating.they had him from rspca as he had been badly treated as a puppy and in a sanctuary for over a year. he is the most well behaved and loving dog - but a real scardey cat - especially of small dogs and our three legged cat.

he has never misbehaved and just loves cuddles - like a big baby - and considering i had a fear of dogs (after ending up in hospital after being attacked by an alsation) i never thought I would be happily brushing a dogs teeth.

Aw Kat I am sorry. I didnt know what you meant by "a Poorly Bun". I had a little lopp-eared rabbit once, called Marlow. He had the run of the house, which was nice except he kept eating telephone wires but very clean as he also ate his own poos! He died of the flu.

Its horrible to see a pet die, no matter what it is.:(

Love Kayx

Kat,

Just passed by and saw your message re bun, was it age or what?

Had a Flemish Giant crossed with something else once, used to take it for a walk on a lead, although it's been a long time I still think of him and the things he got up to, always remember how he would lope into the living room and then put his chin on the arm of the armchair and look at you with those big eyes of his, either he wanted to go for a walk or he just wanted to curl up in your lap. Animals are just like children, now you are starting to get me all maudling, so I'm off to make a cup of tea.

Laydee was a good old age but don't think she ever recovered from the fly strike incident - seemed to rally but then just keeled over after a couple of weeks. When I saw her thismorning it was as if she was still with us - had one ear cocked and other down in her cute pose. Just hope she didn't suffer. Just waiting for the day no 1 cockerel Gareth goes now - him very old too, lives in the house mostly and passed on his 'girls' to younger Arnie, mind you can still keep the youngster in place. Characters or what.

Give me animals any day, they give a lot and ask for very little in return, humans could do with taking a leaf out of their books.

How do your cockerels get on with the neighbours? Friend of mine had one but the council with the connivance of neighbours within a 10 mile radius, ordered him to get rid of the cockerel or else. He chose or else and the council with the help of the RSPCA came and took it away. No, he did not live in suburbia but on the outskirts.
