hi-npbs are chasing me for £2400 arrears-i have calculated that they owe me £2917.5 in charges!

i spoke with them today and theyve just told me that as i have not physically paid and lost £2917 that should they be refunded they would simply reduce the mortgage balance.they wouldnt be able to wipe off the arrears and i wouldnt be entitled to cheque payment!!!??

You need to be careful with secured lenders as once you get to 2-3 months arrears they can usually go for repossession of your property. To be honest if they are offering to refund the charges and virtually clear your mortgage arrears with them I would be taking it... just my opinion but compared to, say unsecured lenders they have a lot more bargaining power.
