or did I see a link/forum on this site on being charged for early redemption of mortage - say when one isn't in arrears of anything but when moving from one product to another you get charged a 'redemption' fee. Is this legal and can it be recouped?

On a roll now lol,

Hi,

Just to let you know that earlier this year we sold our house as we are moving overseas and we paid a "redemption fee". Then I saw a programme on GMTV with the money expert saying that the redemption fees for mortgages were too high and that you could reclaim the difference between what you were originally quoted when you took on the mortgage and what you actually paid. I wrote to the Halifax quoting the details from the moneyexpert site on GMTV and 4 days later ,without any further correspondence, they refunded the fee in full.

Good luck to you with your claim.
