Hello all,

I am just starting my claim and I am really glad I found this site and forum before I really got stuck into the difficult bits. I initially started doing this using information and templates that I found on Martin's Money Saving Expert website, but that is not as thorough or detailed as the info on this site and I now feel more confident about the course of action ahead of me. Here is my progress so far:

1) 8th May 2007 - wrote to Barclays' Data Protection unit requesting details of all charges from the last 6 years

2) Mid-end June - received copies of my statements for the last 6 years, only just within the statutory 40-day time limit.

3) 4th of July - wrote to Barclays requesting they pay me the £1,280 that I have accrued in penalty charges over the last 5 years

4) Received letter from Barclays dated 11th July saying they are sorry I am not happy about the charges, they will treat it as a complaint, will get back to me within 4-8 weeks etc.

5) Today, I have drafted a second preliminary request for payment letter, using the more detailed and professional template available on this site. I will post this on the 18th, once my initial 14 day deadline has passed. I know this will give Barclays an additional 14 days to respond before I need to move onto the next letter, the Letter Before Action, but I feel that making sure I set out what I want and why is important, both for the paper trail should I need to go to court, and to make them take me more seriously.

I will keep this up to date in the hopes that others can benefit from my case!

Have a read of some other threads to see what is likely to happen further along the line :)

Any typos spelling mistakes are due to leprechauns in my keyboard they move the letters around sometimes (amended just for Bookie)
