I registered a domain name in 1999 as a sole trader under a particular trading name. In 2000 I made it into a limited company and the only difference in the company name vs. the trading name was that it had limited at the end. I forgot about changing the registration details until 2005 when we moved to another location, but our registrar refused to update the details for the domain with our new address, 2 years later and the situation is the same. Now Nominet want to charge me £35 for changing the registrant details for the domain name so that the address can be changed.

As a workaround can I simply put at the bottom of my company letterhead 'company' is a trading name of 'company limited' thus avoiding paying Nominet a £35 fee and also getting the registrar to update the address for the domain?

Also, is my registrar in breach of the Nominet registrars agreement by failing to update details of the domain soon after they were notified of the changes in 2005?

Your letterhead cannot be modified simply to keep Nominet happy. It must show the correct trading style and Ltd, along with the registration number and place (england, Wales, Scotland etc).

As to your web domain, you set this up as a sole trader, so there should be no problem in changing it as there is a continuation, However is see no reason why you do not bother with any formal change, as you can put the formal details in the 'Contact Us' page if you really want to.

The registrar has refused to update the address details for the domain and my account, even though I've been renewing the domain since 2001. The domain is due for renewal on the 11th June and they apparently sent the invoice to my previous address because they haven't updated the address details since 2005.
